I've tried a search on this as I vaguely recall a related thread quite a while ago, but couldn't find anything. I was wondering what sort of money am I looking at to convert my 986 gear shift to the short shift that I believe is in the S. The standard shift is quite long, not very sports-car like at all. Is it really a plug and play job, working from the inside of the car? I'd still be considering getting it done at the dealers though. Has anyone made this change, is it worth it?

Interestingly it contradicts the view that it's a b*gger to change gear when the box is cold.

Hi
I have this as a factory fitted option on my 987S, and I have to say (IMHO) it's worth every penny - it makes it much more 'snickety' and sports-like, and although there is a small increase in firmness required, I find this also makes it feel much more solid and precise too. I have not encountered any problems from cold, although it does get fractionally easier once the 'box has warmed up (but then doesn't a 'normal' box do this as well?). The OPC salesman took it out for a spin to see the difference and came back a convert, as he'd never tried one before.
Each to their own, but I'm really pleased with the effect on my 'driving experience'!
I'd recommend it as a worthy extra for the money.
Now, if only they sold instant 'Walther Rorhl' pills as well......![
