SEPTEMBER 2009
The Hadley Bowling Green Inn on the Last Tuesday of the Month.
Post Code WR9 0AR
Not far off 10% of our total Region Membership, came to our September meeting, which generally is very good for any meet. Well done, keep it up and keep coming. I was pleased to welcome Nigel Pugh, who joined at Blenheim and also to see Ray Norris again, a regular since our June show night.
I produced a couple of wicked puzzle questions which defeated everyone, although Sarah Mould came up with an unexpected answer to one of them; not correct, but a good guess, so she went away with the "˜bubbly'.
Nigel was the nearest with the other and I owe him a bottle of wine next time as I forgot to give it to him on Tuesday
Several were looking forward to the Breakfast Meet at Cosford and either a visit to the museum or the Air Ambulance Station. We have twenty or so cars booked, so should put on a good show. Unfortunately, I shall arrive in my Cavalier as I have a problem with the 924.
Joan and I went to Curborough on Sunday, to an Aston Martin sprint meeting and the retirement of Carolyn and Terry Snowdon, after thirty nine years of running the event. Some of you may have met Terry at the karting events at Stourbridge, in the past. Terry has, for years, been a chief handicapper and race organiser, at most tracks in the U.K. and instrumental in the organisation and running in most of the racing events, to which the Porsche Club have participated over the years.
In the early 90's. we started assisting John Bayldon and his son Nick at the Curborough start line for AMOC and eventually I took over as chief start line marshal, with Adrian assisting and Joan running the bottom paddock at the start line. Regrettably, John died a few years ago, but Nick is always in our race reports, as he seriously races his 911 throughout the year and you can follow him in the various position lists reported in PP. We were pleased to meet Nick again on Sunday.
My 924 kept stalling on the way there, an unusual occurrence. I mentioned it to Dave Pattison, who was there and he noticed that a stud was missing at the rear of the exhaust manifold. By the time I got home, it was blowing very badly and it appears that the stud has sheared, so it is a "˜head off' job to fix. I will endeavour to do a blow by blow ( that's exhausting !) report in the 924 Register Section, when the work is completed.
Our visit to Paul Howells' collection is at the end of October.
Those who registered interest have been informed and I will report next month.
I have arranged a small treat for our regulars at the bowling Green at our November the 24th meeting, our last chance to meet up before Christmas.
I am planning to hold our Annual Lunch at the Bowling Green in February on a Sunday, so most will be able to attend and at the moment. I have suggested a figure of £20 per head. I know it seems far off, but with the Christmas break in between, please put a provisional date in your diary and do let me know if you will be coming, so I can make arrangements with the management as soon as possible, at least to guide them in anticipated numbers.
If you are interested in Classic Rallying, I am hoping to arrange an informal talk by two experienced members of the AMOC, who have spent many years participating in these events.
Should be an interesting evening, sometime in the New Year.
Last month, my Report went astray, apparently due to the postal strike, so we missed the pictures.
Hopefully, they will be in this month.
Forthcoming Events.
November 24th, Tuesday meeting night and a small treat.
Will it be a "˜shear' pleasure in working on my 924, or just "˜exhausting' ?
John Lord.
