Seeking a Recommendation

I'm looking for recommendations wrt a specialist to perform a clutch replacement on my 944 S2 in the Reading / Farnborough (or wider) area. Many thanks.

Northways - just east of Thatcham. I haven't used Ray but plenty have. No idea about relative cost but I doubt there would be any issue with the work done. He was certainly accommodating when I dropped in to have a look at his stock.

Hillcrest in Henley are getting some very good reports from 944 owners over the last couple of years, and might be a bit cheaper than Northway. Northway haven't had any bad reports, but I've received a few comments that they're not as economical as they used to be on the older models, I don't know if they're following the likes of JZM or Hartech towards the newer cars?

Promax or Jon Mitchel, obviously, if you want to go a bit further.

Hi Glenn, this sounds promising, you keeping her or just adding up the damage?

I have asked my garage for a quote for you, will let you know soon as.

Why not give Jon Mitchell a bell at JMG?

They're a possibility but a little further to travel than I might wish, 140+ mile round trip and a nightmare to get to on public transport.

I'm swithering (there's a good Scots word I haven't used in a while). Cheers!

Ray at Northways for someone local to Reading,i had a freind that lived in the area and he always went there.

Thanks, I've requested estimates from Northway and Hillcrest. I have a benchmark price from OPC Reading [:(]

Steve Bull looks a bit faffy to get to... but you never know.

Porschembri in Houndslow 020 8577 9520 did mine, was the cheapest in London at £850 fitted, Patrick just works with his son but he did a good job and has been working on these cars for a long time now.

Thanks, Edd. I'll give them a call.

I now have a quote from Northway which is somewhat less eye-watering than OPC Reading.

£850 fitted is a good price. What type (manufacturer) of clutch did they fit for that price?

Oli.

The cheapest clutch kit deal has always been Frazerpart, at about £500 all-in. 6 hours is about what the specialists seem to allow, so £850 including VAT is a pretty low labour rate for London but not too unreasonable if they are fast. I guess a lot has to be down to how easily everything comes apart, and whether they find anything else whilst it's up in the air.

I've been going to Ninex in maidenhead for the last couple of years. Andy and James have been great. Highly recommended. They're also walking distance from the train station which is handy for dropping off or picking up the car.

Thanks for everyone's input. In the end I went with Steve Bull in Devizes. Not the cheapest or the closest but the one, of those who replied, who I felt most comfortable with. He was happy to discuss different options and gave his opinions on the pluses and minuses of each. Additionally, they were able to offer a loan car which made getting there and back easy.

I had a few other jobs done whilst it was there.

I have the car back and so far am very happy although all I've managed to do is sprint back in the dark trying to get home before the snow made things too treacherous.
