Hello. I am new and happy owner of 944 Lux from 1988. It is my project car. I would like ask for help with seats. I bought all seats in good condition, because my old was in bad condition... But rear seats are different and I will need help with fitting. As you can see on pictures, there is different locking system. What have I do and how to fit there new seats to my car? Many thanks.

Hi Marek, and welcome.

Your old seats are like mine, out of the later 944. I haven't looked at the rear seats in an early car, but the pictures you show look different. Hopefully someone with the eraly seats can help.

Do the front seats have only four fixing holes; as opposed to the six on the cars original seats (one on each side front and two next to each other on each side to the rear)?

If you have brought the seats with the internal clip (first pictures) all you need to do is remove the two locators with the two screw bolts and replace with some later locating pins (i have some if you need some)

strictly the rear quarter cards for these are slightly different but the pins will fit

Theyre very early seats, as Elliot has alluded to above. You can fit them but itll be a compromise as already described, at the rear and itll be dangerous at the front. Series two (which your car is) seats have six fixings because these later-type seats carry the seat belt buckle - the extra bolt is to make the seats mounting strong enough to hold you in the event of an accident.

Series one 944s and 924s have their seat belt buckle bolted to the side of the transmission tunnel, but you car doesnt have provision for this.

If theyre good seats then Id sell them and buy seats that suit your car - 1986 model year (also called oval dash or new dash in adverts) onwards.

Many thanks. I cant sell, because in Northern Ireland is so difficult find any good interior for 944. Propably best way will be change upholstery on front seats and buy locating pins from firs series on rear seats...

Could you remove the covers from the replacement seats and fit them to your old frames?

It will be best way... I will do any pictures from instalation and place here...

Errrm... no, you cant, unfortunately. Series two seats are similar is design/style, but theyre not the same size and shape as the seats that they replaced.

If you take them off youll end up with two spoiled sets of seats, in all likelihood.

So, it is very bad for me... I´ll try return there seat set back to seller. But dont believe, he will agree with refunding...

I guess it depends under which circumstances the sale was agreed. If the seller told you that they would fit an '88, then the parts he shipped are not fit for purpose. He might as well have sent MG metro seats...and no one should be able to argue about a refund if that was the case.
