Seat woes! Sorry if this is a repeat.

Hi All,

So, both my electric seats are completely non-functioning. (They are not the electric heated ones)
When you try to operate them, the 30 amp fuse blows in the fuse box.

Before I go delving into the problem, I wondered if this is a common problem and there are a couple of likely cures. Any advice?

Thanks,
Jevon

I've had problems with electric seats in both my 968's, and both times it's been the wiring under the seat had disconnected close to the motor 'cos the wires are too tight and wear through over time. If that's happened, it could be that the exposed wire is shorting straight to earth, blowing the fuse when you hit the button.

Pretty easy to undo the seats from the runners - 4 or 6 allen head bolts, then wriggle the seat around until you can see underneath. Put the other seat all the way forward and get the seatback of the other seat as far forward as you can so you've got maximum room to play with the seat that's playing up.

Good luck!

Thanks Chris,

I was thinking that there must be a short somewhere. I'll try the wiring under the seat first.
Let you know how I get on.

thanks
Jevon

Definately look under seats for wear and tear causing a short, you may have to remove quite a bit of tacky 20+year old electricians tape. Porsche were'nt to high tech back then

I had the same problem with on of my seats. Iwas the wireing in the plug under the seat.Open the plug up and check for loose conections.

Thanks for all you help guys.
Yes - the seats are bloody heavy, just over 20 kgs each
Yes both wires had work hardened through moving the seat back and forth. Trimmed up the wires, re-soldered. All working now.

Cheers everybody!
