Seat Swap Conundrum

My Turbo has fully electric seats in full black script. Theyre in reasonably good condition but the material has becone shiny and the foam has collapsed - so good condition in this instance means no rips/holes and all the motors work. I have a second set in similar material, but newer and far, far fresher. They both have basic electric operation (no backrest or fore & aft movement) and the passenger side seat has a matchhead sized cigarette burn right between your legs.

Would you swap them over, ignore the small marr and not worry about the lower specification, or leave the original seats as they are and fidget every five minutes to stop them from hurting?

I wonder how much lighter they are too...

Don't know how hard it would be but can you not swap the covers and foam over from one set to the other.I would try to take the worst seat apart and see if it can be done if not then fit the newer set.
 
Swap them , the backrests are a PITA but the bottom is much easier . Throw the covers in the washing machine before installing them ,they will come out like new .Use a soft cycle and don't leave them more than one hour ,they are fragile and the seams could come apart . Be prepared to sew back new supports for the metal rods , they always come apart ,not at the seams ,the material itself is too brittle from age . Hardest bit is the backrest center piece ,has to be reattached to the foam ,i sew it ,found it simpler . Use zip ties to attach them back to the frame .
I've done it just to wash them ,did the drivers seat last year and i'm doing the passenger seat right now ,they are like new again ,well worth it but i warn you it takes a lot of time and patience .

Thats the crux of the matter Catalin, I really dont have the patience any more. When I first owned a 944 Id sit in the car all weekend tinkering and fettling it, but nearly twenty years on and Im not as enthusiastic as I used to be... [:D]

I might see how much a good trimmer will charge me to refit them though. I presume that taking the old covers off is far easier than fitting them again?

Yes it's always easier taking things apart . The problem is that they are old and i guarantee something will fall apart and need repairing ,like i said most common part to give is the support for the wire rods ,those keep the cushion firm on the padding ,without it they would be like a sharpei dog . I am getting some early sport seats right now that need a lot of attention, i will attempt to change the bolsters myself.
If you were closer i could have helped you do them.
 
id just swap the seats over, you wont be sitting in the passenger seat so doubt it will even bother you.

To swap them is only unplug a connector and 4 bolts - surely easier to swap than play around with them and if you are the main driver how many times do you adjust them?

PS: must be lighter too [;)]
 
Thats the thing Paul, now that I have fully electric seats I constantly adjust them. With a normal electric seat Id never touch the buttons...

Im so lacking enthusiasm now that I have had a new cassette box lid and hinge in my footwell sliding around for the last week - I just cant get up the enthusiasm to swap it.
