Having recently had the full front end of the car re-painted to lose stone chips, as is often the case I got rather carried away and ended up fitting two new fog/spot units. So to avoid the inevitable stone damage I decided to fit some protectors, not a fan of the flat Perspex type I opted for the ones sold by type911.
The kit consists of two lens covers and two small brackets.
Following the rather vague instructions supplied to begin with I removed the inner cover from the lamp, as you can see I have tried to ensure no more rusty fasteners.
At first glance I presumed the small bracket supplied would mount behind the end cover with a piece projecting to fasten a plastic nut to, having tried, that it is not the case, well not without modifying things.
The small bracket in fact sits to the outside of the cover and simply utilises its mounting screw. Once you have this bracket attached taking care not to over tighten thus cracking the plastic, the cover slips over and is wedged between lamp and PU at one end, with a small black nut on the other.
Shape and contour etc is excellent, whether they will stay on at road speeds I have my doubts, I think the principle of these is very good but if they had been formed to incorporate the separate end piece of the original lamp ( ie do away with the two plastic pieces all together) they could have then been fitted using the two factory mounting screws and would be perfect.
Pictures may explain better
Cheers, Paul
Ok, swapped sides from original pic, small bkt fitted using original screw passing through bkt , plastic trim piece and into lamp as normal. Lens protector fitted over bracket at this point.
Back to other side, sorry, with the far end wedged between PU and lamp the near end is then fastened with black plastic nut
Finished item, both covers in place
