Hi, forgive my ignorance but i have a question. If a 944s has an s2 front end fitted how could a potential purchaser tell which model it is? The reason i ask is that a friend of mine has just been to look at an s2 that needs a little work as a project, all appeared as it should and all parts looked original but it says 944s on the log book (the car is an '89). He then phoned me as a fully clued up 944 owner...... the mans a fool!

Assuming no changes have been made in the engine bay then the airbox will have the word "Ventiller" on it. Also the "S" has regular Lux styles brakes, whereas the S2 has the more obvious Brembo style brakes, although again they could have been upgraded I suppose.
The real test will be to drive one though. An S2 feels fairly meaty low down and is more than a match for my other car, whereas an "S" by all account is terribly gutless below 4000rpm, and then goes a bit after that.

It's a lot of work to change the front end - the wings are different as well as the PU. The S2 has the black plastic trims along the length of the sills as well. S should have "ventiler" badges in front of the side indicator repeaters.

Hi there, on opening the bonnet the airbox greets you with 16 Ventiler logo, the side indicator rub strip should have a 16 Ventiler badge although this was a delete factory option and the tailgate should have 944 S badge.
The 944 S was only produced from Sep 86 to Nov 88, I beleive that most of all the UK models were 1987 or 88s.
