S2 feels a bit flat below 4k

Nick, if your S2 feels slugish only below 4000 revs, think yourself lucky. Mine felt sluggish full stop. That's why I took to buying turbos[;)]

Does the ratio spread of the 6 gears also inhibit making "discrete progress" despite the extra horses ?

Well the ratios they picked certainly don't help normal driving much as 3rd and 4th are ISTR more or less the same, 5th is a lot lower and 2nd a touch longer. On tracks this and the extra power *should* make a significant difference up at around 120+ where aero drag is a big factor and in the S2 the drop into 5th just bogs the car down.

The only direct comparisons I can make to a 968 were during quali at Silverstone (tried if possible not to compromise those racing class 1 in club during the 3 races). My experience was that most of the 968's could drive round my car on the straights whereas there was very little in it compared to other class 2 cars. Both Marcus Carniels S2 and the white EMC S2 driven by Ross Morris could pull several feet on me in a straight line drag race such as down the Hanger straight, so I am marginally down on grunt to those guys but not much. I guess the issue with the 968 and to some extent any car with higher power and weight is that you need to wind it up on those long straights to get past.

My car dyno'ed out at 220 Bhp and 206 lb/ft earlier this year.

Well my 944 Turbo felt sluggish, so I added a dual port wastegate and it was fine..........................

................. but it is all dependant on what you are comparing it with!!!!!!!!!!!!................... mine comparison was a 993 Turbo

I've been wondering if my S2 isn't ruining quite right.
Since I've had her she's always been a bit flat below 4k, but speed quickly builds 4k onwards.
Just wondering if this was normal and if not is there anything obvious that it could be?

Definitely something not right there Nick I would say.

My S2 has been neglected and abused continuously for 6 years yet it pulls strongly from 2000rpm up to 5500rpm without any obvious peaking or 'coming on cam'
Mind you I have just remembered mine is chipped !...[;)]

If your car isn't yet chipped I would order one up directly as they say in Cornwall. You won't believe the power delivery. There was one on ebay the other day for £50 squids
