Hi

Does someone knows if it possible use a S2 3.0L crankshaft in a stock MK1 944 with a M44.01 2.5L.
I know that the stroke of the S2 its bigger, but theres clearence in the stock block?

Thanks

Pedro from Portugal

Normally the use of a 3.0L crankshaft in a 2.5L block also needs a different piston and will achieve a 2.8L engine.

I don't think you will have clearance to the valves with the standard 2.5L piston

Hi Paul

So, for I can use the S2 crankshaft, I have to change only the pistons?
But the S2 pistons are 104mm of diametre.
I have to bore the block. Theres enough clearance in the sleaves to that?

I believe there is a clearance issue ; the original rods may hit the block, so you may need to replace them as well.

Yep, you'll need rods and probably pistons as well. Not S2 pistons as they are too big a diameter, but custom ones designed for the new stroke in the current bore.

Theoretically it's like doing the conversion in a Turbo 2.5, and I expect the rods for that conversion would be fine, but the pistons won't as they would produce far too low a compression ratio for a normally aspirated engine.

Pedro, what is it exactly that you want to achieve?

Have you a broken crankshaft and the chance of a cheap 3.0L version to replace it, or are you trying to make a bigger engine in the standard 100mm bore?

Unfortunally my crankshaft is not in good shape...
A rod bearing broke and it scratches the crankshaft beyond the safe limite...

In the mechanic shop are trying to save de crankshaft but I don't have much hope...

So I have been searching in the ebay and all that I find is from S2... So that's my questions...
But it appers to be an impossible for my budget.
