Rusty brake servo

Another annoying little job...does anybody else have a rusty brake servo? Looks like everything at that point under the bonnet suffers from condensation (the car lives outside under a tailored breathable cover).

Even the suspension top mount studs are very rusty, so much so that they look like they might shear off if I undid them....pity, because I'd like to try a strut brace eventually.

My car doesn't have underbonnet insulation...wonder if that would help? Paragon in the US sell one for about $85 (US cars had fuel injection problems in the hot climate I recall, especially in dark colours!).

Meanwhile, because the servo looks so scabby, I don't want to risk the surface rust getting worse, so another job for when it stops raining is to get some paint on it...
 
Mine's rusty too..Not sure how i'm going to sort it out?

I don't fancy taking it off, so I suppose when I've "de-rusted" it i'll mask everything off for painting.

It's a bit strange as the rest of the engine bay is immaculate


Anyone else tackled this?
 
Do you mean the brake booster jobby? The big black cylinder? I sanded mine back and painted it with Hammerite rust stopper or something similar. Looks ok for now...
 
For now if you treat it and the bolts with a brush on rust killer it will all turn black, improve the appearance and prevent further rusting until it is sorted properly.
 
Any idea how much the boosters cost new? I'm looking to replace the servo, which are quite cheap, so am thinking that if the booster isn't too expensive I might as well replace that. This way all my brake system apart from the ABS unit will have been refreshed over the past couple of years.
