Running problems

Having some problems I just can't iron out. If anyone can shed some light it would be very helpful. I spent 2 hrs sorting all the vac leaks yesterday and the car runs better and probably nothing wrong with my wastegate. I also checked play in the turbo and all seems well, so I don't need a new turbo or wastegate as I thought in my last post.
Anyway my problems are:

If you blip the throttle from idle, so only get to about 2k revs the engine stumbles and takes a second to rev up. Also if you floor the throttle from idle like you're trying to pull out of a junction fast, nothing happens for maybe a second or two. Lastly if you don't roll on the power the car seems to just not go like it should. But if you roll through 3k revs then floor it, it pulls like a train. Any ideas??
One thing to note is the exhaust is blowing at the turbo as a stud is snapped, could this cause any of the above??

Thanks,

Tom.

Hi, Check the pressure at the fuel rail, my car ( non-turbo ) displayed similar symptoms when the fuel pressure regulator went and the engine was being over-fuelled.

Do fuel regs fail open or closed??

I dont have a gauge, I will have to see if I can track one down. What should the pressure be??

2.5 bar I think, but it's rising rate.

You definitely need to get the exhaust blow sorted out before you worry too much.

Your wastegate will be shagged.

edit: gotta love clumsy, unintelligent "swear" filters - I'm glad my sensitivities aren't as delicate as whoever selected the dictionary for this one or I'd be apoplectic most of every day... [8|]

The starred word above is a legitimate name for a seabord among other things, and I would be amazed if anyone finds it offensive in 2008.

It's an interesting point, that. I guess that as we're showered with swearing all day long, and forums like Pistonheads get more and more abusive, we are trying to keep the PCGB site as an oasis of mature and polite discussion. I quite like the break from the all-too-common clumsy English and foul-mouthed rants that make other sites so unpleasant to inhabit.

Anyway, back off to write my weekly letters to the Radio 4 complaints department.......[;)]

Don't get me wrong - I don't think it should be a free for all, but perhaps a dictionary not maintained by the Women's Institute would be more reflective of contemporary language without causing anyone offence.

And exactly what is wrong with the Women's Institute...???!!![;)]

Back to the post, mine had a broken stud at the exhaust manifold and since that was sorted, it definitely comes on boost slightly earlier - as you'd expect if some of the gases were escaping rather than making their way to the turbine.

I'm no longer getting the headaches after a prolonged drive either.....[8|] You don't want to be inhaling those fumes in the cabin for too long.

Well its the stud from the turbo, not too, so not sure what difference this will make other then sounding like a tractor, lol. Have it half stripped down today should have the rest done tomorrow then I will find out the difference.

Some times I think what all this fuss about 951s is I am sure my Lux was faster.(it did have a big bore back box).

I should know better then to buy dodgy cars of forum members, lol.

That new VXXR8 XXR corsa is a bit fast!!

Ahem, she was running just fine last time I used her and seemed fine on the test drive we had. Sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations Tom - Hope the cause is something relatively straightforward, one of those boost enhancers should help if its the wastegate that's the route cause.

Jon it is OK, its just me wanting everthing spot on (it wasnt a go at you). For example when they put the standard exhaust back on they have snapped a stud from the turbo so when it gets hot it sounds like a tractor. Also the water pump is not tight so leaks a little water out. But I am more then pleased with the car.[;)]

Sorry, completely OT but Mr McNulty's protestations reminded me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hcoT6yxFoU
