23rd MAY, VISIT TO SPECIALIST CARS OF MALTON

Arrangements have been made with Glynn O'Donnell at the independent Porsche specialists for a visit on this date. This will include a free 74-point check on those members' cars wishing to have their vehicles examined and of course the all-important tea and biscuits. Plans for the day are as follows:

Meeting at the Little Chef cafe on the southbound carriageway A19 at 10am, this is approximately 6 miles south of the River Tees flyover. From here we will travel south as far as the Thirsk bypass and then east on the A170 towards Helmsley and onto Malton, hoping to arrive at Specialist cars at around 11.30am. After spending a couple of hours in the capable hands of Glynn O'Donnell and his staff lunch has been booked for 2pm at the Blue Bell Inn in nearby Scagglethorpe, with plenty of parking available and a large menu serving one, two or three course lunches with vegetarian options available.
After we have been suitably fed and watered a scenic drive through the north Yorkshire dales towards Goathland, the location of the popular series Heart Beat which should give us some chances for the odd photo shoot and if we time it right a view of the moors railway, steam and all.
I will need the numbers attending Specialist cars and for lunch if you can let me know no later than May 17th.

A very enjoyable day with your region - good entertainment at Malton with Mick demonstrating his donuts! Good lunch and perfect weather - hope you all made it back to the north o.k.

It was good to meet Porsche enthusiasts from Norway and I will be e-mailing photos to one of their group tomorrow.

Nicks Report of the day
What a day. It started at 10am at the Little Chef truck stop on the A19 just south of Stokesley. Twelve cars met under the cloudless skies with the sun beating down, several members commented that they thought they had the wrong day, as it wasn't raining.
We travelled in convoy and arrived at Specialist Cars at 11.20am with a warm welcome from Glyn O'Donnell and his staff. Also at this time we met three other members and their cars and, much to the surprise of several members who I had not had chance to inform, a group of Norwegian Porsche club members, thirteen in total who had travelled over in four midnight blue 993s, a black 996 and a white 911 sc, their organiser Sture Nepstad had e-mailed me some weeks previous asking if he and his friends could meet our club members as they were in the north east for the weekend and as chance would have it I had already organised this trip. All our respective members got on well and a good exchange of Norwegian and British Porsche chat followed.
Whilst several of us enjoyed Specialist Cars hospitality with tea, coffee and biscuits in between viewing all the Porsches and two Ferraris that were on show a couple of members took the opportunity to have their machines examined by the technicians who were on hand for the day to carry out the free 74 point check on members Porsches and as far as I am aware there were no major problems.
Our time at Specialist Cars ended with a grand finale. Mick, one of the staff, is a professional racecar driver and performed a fantastic display of donoughts and high speed passes sideways on full opposite lock in his
911 racecar, most impressive, needless to say a huge round of applause ensued in between the coughs and sputters as we all breathed in the clouds of tyre smoke.
Thanks to all the staff at specialist Cars for a wonderful time and to the owner John Hawkins who made the teas and coffees!

Next we made our way to the Bluebell Inn, situated in the tiny village of Weaverthorpe where we all had a beautiful Sunday lunch whilst the staff and locals enjoyed the car park which had taken on the appearance of a well established Porsche dealership, quite a sight for those unfamiliar with the marque.
