RSR's on 993 in R19 Thames Valley

I've read loads about these RSR mufflers but I'm not sure if I've ever actuually heard them in use. I emailed Gert and got an excellent response from him, but before I order I think I want to hear them for myself.

So, anyone in R19 (or anywhere near-ish Reading) got some on their 993? Can I pop over and have a listen? I'm hoping for a laugh-out-loud-where-do-I-sign-to-get-some kind of noise...

just had mine done and they sound gr8. Have the stock mufflers for sale off a mint c2s 1996. You could modify these yourself or get gert to do them ?

I have just fitted rsr1's...these are slightly quieter and were Gert's original design, will post comments next week when I have 'tested' them, I am in Blackheath if you are ever passing. Fantastic service from Gert.

Thanks Surinder. It was your posts that got me started again on having RSR's o nthe car. Given the cost you are about to cause me to incur, perhaps you'd consider donating your spare mufflers to my cause?![;)]

If they sound as good as reported, I think I'm going to take a drive over to Gert's workshop and get them fitted on site. Good excuse to use some nice French roads again!

Cheers, Craig

Hi Harvey- Are you running a tip gearbox? RSR 1's are what Gert recommended for mine. Excellent service from Gert so far - if the noise is right he's got my money for sure.

Cheers

Craig

I have RSRs on my C2 and whilst they sound great from the outside, they are a bit boomy between 2000 to 3000rpm, this seems to be the luck of the draw as some people don't have this problem.

Hi Craig

I am near Farnham (hogs back ) If you want to pop over on sunday and have a listen.RSRs fitted about a month ago

Hi Craig,

Sorry I'm a bit far away, but hopefuly this info. will help. I fitted RSRs a week ago and I'm delighted with the sound. I expected a low, boomy exhaust note, but what I got was quite different. The sound is much more "tubular" and very characteristic. It sounds quite different to other non-Porsche cars with sports exhausts and is certainly not intrusive inside the car. You also get a slightly lower "growl" at idle. I'm delighted and the car sounds like I think it always should have, without any antisocial decibels.

Gert is really helpful. I got new RSRs. He's offered me 200 euros for my old boxes. Make sure you check to see if you need new heat shields though before you order. Mine were shot. Also, your bumper stays might be rusted through, so change those whilst you're in there for an easier life. My nearside muffler/silencer strap bolt was completely seized, leading to some fun with the grinder on a Sunday afternoon, so make sure you leave time for this & have a replacement bolt/washers/nut before starting. I found a Black & Decker "Dremmel" type of tool to be invaluable as you will probably find it's easiest just to cut through the clamp bolts. Good luck!

my old silencers are on ebay. make me a offer. the modification itself is quite straightforward if you know someone with a Tig welder. its not rocket science to modify these.

Guys - thanks for all the replies.

Ace571 - I've sent you a private message with my number. Give me a call when convenient and I'll pop over.

Tony - Thanks but if I can I'll see Ace first.

Roddy - Thanks. I've already noticed a loose heatshield so I'll have to do something about that. Gert's place actually doesn't look too far away to do a day trip so I'm considering heading over there to get them changed. Good excuse for a thrash. Will hope to find some tunnels for the return journey! [;)]

Surinder - Good luck with your sale on ebay. I do know someone with the right welding kit but with my luck we're bound to screw it up. I'd rather know they've been done by someone who knows what they are doing.

Cheers guys - I'll let you know how I get on - will be 3-4 weeks before I can get it done.

I've read elsewhere that Gert is out of 993 RSRs at the moment and isn't envisaging having any more in for a while.

So, assuming the ones on ebay are the same as your own (I gather there are twodifferent varieties and you need to ensure you swap like with like), it may still be worth you bidding on them and sending them to Gert (unless of course you wanted to buy the RSRs outright rather than as a swap for your old OEM back boxes).

They are interchangeable as long as you have the metal donughts to attach the tailpipes, I had to, because I have 95MY Bischoff very polished boxes from Gert, I would have sent my Gillet boxes back, but because my car is a 97MY and when and if ever decide to sell it ,I thought putting the originals back on was the wise thing to do .I am sure RSRs will always sell second hand

Big thanks to ACE571 who very kindly dropped by my place to demo his RSR's last night. I think you could say SOLD! most emphatically. I'm getting in touch with Gert today to arrange my visit!

Thanks everyone for your advice
