rough idle loose pipe

Hi All,

My porsche 944S 2.5 16V is idling rough and I noticed after doing some inspecting that there is a pipe that goes from a valve near the distributor (not sure what it is called maybe vacuum advance) underneath the intake manifold to the back of the engine and then is not plugged in, can anyone tell me where it must plug into. I have looked from diagrams and have found for the fuel and vacuum but it does not show this pipe.

Thanks

Gavin

Hi Mike,

It is a 3mm hardpipe with some fubber bits of hose on. I have a picture of where it is by the distributor but cant get a picture of it under the intake, but maybe this picture will help.

Thanks Gavin

I have looked at it and yes it does look like the heater control valve, can you tell me where the 3mm pipe plugs into at the intake end

Thanks

Assuming its attached to the end of the fuel rail, which is a bit unclear from the picture, its a vacuum hose from either the fuel pressure regulator or the damper - don't know which as mine are both at the far end but I know newer models have a different layout. Mine connect together into a Y piece that I think then connects up eventually to the throttle body housing, but as its currently all dismantled I can't be certain - look for previous threads on this issue as I'm sure someone posted some pictures up of the correct layout a few months back

Hi All,

Well I have found a layout that show it plugs into a recirculating valve which i think is at the back of the engine bay, so this is not the fault of the idle being rough. Think i will now replace all the vacuum hoses with 3mm silicone hoses to see if that sorts out the idle problem.

Thanks

Gavin

It could well be your idling problem, all of the vacuum lines connect up and a leak can affect FPR and damper and pressure in the inlet.

ok thanks for that, it looks like to do the vacuum hoses correctly they recommend taking the inlet manifold off, is this a straight forward job.

Regards

Gavin
