Rothmans Edt 944 ?

I doubt that the wheels are original, however: my not being familiar with something doesn't mean that it wasn't possible. Id be interested to see the wheels part numbers though and suspect that only prototype wheels were available in 1984.

I know little of the early cars, I didn't even know there was a 'Rothmans Special' but the car doesn't look right to me, as has already been pointed out it has the later Turbo lower rear diffuser. If it is as stated it seems to have been messed with to me... I of course stand to be corrected if I have this wrong..:)

If you don't know, Simon, we're all stuffed! [:D]

There have always been plenty of limited edition cars in all parts of the world: they aren't all unique, collectible classics. There's a huge difference between a true limited edition, such as a 944 Cup, and a dealer-special like a Lux Celebration. Nice to have, a bit more special, but not a 924 GTS in value.

Thinking of manufacturers trying to sell a few more cars by adding a silly name and some decals, has any car done better than the AX? I don't think I ever saw one that wasn't a logo'd-up special edition....[&:]

I did a little R&D... this is how the car should look

certainly no turbo spoiler, I suspect that it may well be one of the Rothman cars due to the name plate but if so it seems to have been molested... no decals or correct spoiler to name those visible discrepancies so probably greatly devalued from the price advertised.

I think that any special edition needs to be totally original in order to have any value.

Interesting that they were doing any specials that early in the car's life.

Very true. The advertised car isn't worth any premium over a generic early 944 in the equivalent condition; as it's alleged to be number 13 perhaps even less. Triskaidekaphobics need not apply!

Rothmans Porsche 944 is the work of the importer of the brand in France, Sonauto who decides to create a special series whose name pays tribute to the main sponsor of Porsche and wins endurance championship 1983 and the Paris Dakar 1984. Rothmans The 944 series is deliberately limited to 100 copies for sale from 1 May 1984. Despite a sports presentation and fare well under the 200 000 FF, the Porsche 944 Rothmans yet lack a true mechanical advantage. In fact, the engine is fully consistent with that of origin on the approval form. Delivered only in Alpine White with stripping the colors of cigarette (blue, gold and red) browsing throughout the body, it features a body kit imposing to stand out. With two side skirts decorated with the brand name and a rear diffuser reminiscent of the 356 Carrera 2, 944 Rothmans follows fashion customization exploding in the 80s. Moreover, it is equipped with wheels kind phone . 15 "associated with wider tires, anti-roll bars and sport shocks diameter Some optional features are standard on the Rothmans: anti-fog lights, an alarm and a rear wiper At. Inside, two bucket seats with upholstery such as "tennis", a beige carpet, a sport steering wheel with a smaller diameter (363 mm), and a numbered plaque signed the particularity of the Rothmans 944. As is Porsche tradition, cars . are adjustable envy when ordering Ultimately, it is likely that none of the 100 copies is identical to another.

Comically, I hadn't noticed the rear spoiler, but I find the wheels particularly interesting. Ive been meaning to look at PET for ages to try to establish whether 951 part number wheels were the original 7" rear fitment.

Knowing now that the wheels are original, and likely the same part that was used on the rear 0f '84 911s, I am even more interested, so I will make a cup of tea and start looking.

The price is speculative certainly, but otherwise it seems to be quite smart, with a seemingly undamaged dashboard and nice full fabric Tombstones with matching door cards.

*update*

I cant find an older copy of PET which doesn't list 951 parts for the rear. Id wondered whether 911 part numbers had been superceded, but it looks as though they might have been there since the beginning, with a 911# 6" front to match them.

Neither did I. One of my first Frontrunners was a 1985 series one (perfect dash and seats!) which had the sills and rear spoiler from the dealers. I believe that it was called something terrible like 'Turbo Kit', but I was at school when it was new, so its only hearsay.

Alpine White with white centred wheels (a white car only option): it looked like an Essex girl's handbag.

I suspect that Sonauto special is better and more interesting than a PCGB one like the S2 SE or whatever they called it, but Im not sure that it is worth £10,000 to us. I suspect that the cars are worth a good deal more on the continent though and they may appreciate the options that were standard for us, too.

According to this:

it's supposed to have "inclined louvers".

*edit* Whoops - I see PSH beat me to it [:)]
