Roof problem:

The plastic ball joint snapped on one side, fortunately I ordered some a few months back from Amazon as I thought they would break sooner or later. After replacing it the other one then snapped. This one will not stay on and is coming off every time the roof operates. The ones I bought are not OEM so am thinking are they coming off because of this. Obviously I can order a pair again from Amazon but OEM ones, would this sort it out, do they fit better?
There is another issue. The nut has come loose on the other side of the ball and I can’t see a way of tightening it due to there being no space, any ideas?
Thanks.

I bought some ‘Gas Strut Rod End 90 Degree Angle Ball Joint M8 BZP Steel’ on EBay at a cost of £8.50 each and fitted them last year, to date they have worked fine although to get the ball joints on you need a large screwdriver or small pry bar to lever the socket onto the ball once on the spring clip holds the socket onto the ball.

Are the replacement sockets you have fitted fully engaged on the ball? They do need some force to push the socket onto the ball.

The OPC will only sell the operating arm with ball on the end at a cost of approx. £50.00

On the loose nut issue do you get better access if you partially operate the roof mechanism with the ball joints disconnected? or by lifting the roof?

There is a section on ‘convertible top mechanism repair’’ in the ‘101 Projects For Your Porsche Boxster’ manual (Project 71).

Good luck

Thanks for your reply, I have read many times not to use the metal ball joints as it can cause further problems to the mechanism if they snap, howeve, they seem to be working fine for you. They do seem to be located onto the ball correctly and i got the ‘snap’ when fitting, they just won’t stay on!

where can I find the 101 projects you mentioned?

The book is available on EBay at circa £20 inc postage and is similar to the Haines manuals of old.
