A rudely-worded demand from the DVLA that I purchase a "tax disc" or make a SORN has forced my hand in deciding the 944's fate. I'd forgotten it was due.

In a triumph of sentiment over good sense and continuing my habit of pouring good money after bad I have decided to keep the beasty on the road.

So"¦ On Monday a new clutch will be fitted. Some bodywork issues that need addressing, as well as some discretionary cosmetic improvements, will be seen to at the end of the month and then some remaining minor mechanical niggles (comedy handbrake etc.) will be tackled in February.

Hopefully this will put the car into a state that I will be happy to enjoy for a while.

Hopefullly ready for Rutland?

The clutch is the only mechanical issue which would give me a concern about Rutland and that should be complete next week. Assuming the bodyshop schedule doesn't slip and the car isn't stuck in a paint-booth that weekend then it should be ready.

I knew you'd keep the faith, mate. My offer of £250 still stands though....[;)]

Generous as it was, I'm afraid I am now going to have to decline that offer. Thanks all the same, though. [;)]

I do feel slightly nervous about sending my 944 off to have its clutch done as it's not going to my normal mechanic. He was given the option of doing it but declined, suggesting that since he'd never done a 944 clutch that I might be better off having it done by an experienced specialist. Quite admirable of him to consider my best interests rather than merely grab the work and learn at my expense.

The bodywork is going to be done by a company for which I have had numerous positive recommendations.
