My 98 2.5 in Guards Red has the most ugly stone chips on the front PU, bonnet and wings. I have read the previous threads on stone chips etc. and I have made the decision to rectify the situation. The car has done 67K so one would expect some damge but mine is extensive (I never seen one as bad)

I have had three quotes upto now, 2 from independents, one from a Official Porsche body repair centre. all have said the same thing (which is reasuring I suppose) in regards to the work involved.

Because of the extent of the work I am a little nervous of the outcome. Due in part to the comments made regarding the difficulties in applying non metalic guards red and matching with the surrounding paintwork (comment made at the OPC).

Has anyone else been down this route (not necessarily G Red) and if so was it with the OPC or an independant body repairer and are you satisfied with the result. I live in the South East and would welcome recommedations from anyone who has had this work done

TIA

I had the front of mine done almost 2 years ago and apart from it having to go back to be finished off the results were fine. There should be no problems matching Guards Red for anyone who knows what they are doing.

Needless to say the front of my car is almost as bad as it was 2 years ago. I wouldn' t bother spending the money again as it cost me £1300.

just had mine done,by jasmin when they did the GT3 kit. they made an awful job of the finish(orange peel affect)so i' ve got to drive the car all the way back to them (nr preston)to get it redone.then i' ve to go back again to collect it a few day' s later...im not impressed Brian Goff (no relation)what with the exhaust pipe rattling and the spoiler warning light not deactivated im not sure i would recommened you to anyone eles!!!

not sure the free boxster pin badge really makes up for Larry having to take day' s off work, driving two cars upand back to prestion and loosing out in my local concours cos of quality of paint work!!!!

It was Spraymaster at Swindon which is part of the Lovett group aka Porsche Centre Swindon.

I don' t think they are anything special but you do get a Porsche guarantee for what it' s worth - it took me a year for them to get the work details correct.

JCB..

Thanks for that,

I will need to give it some real thought as the OPBRC have quoted £1,900 which does include a few cosmetic touches to the rear PU (Shopping trolley rash)

JCB, you got totally ripped off with your spray job.

£1300 for the front your mad. You could have the whole car blown over for that with money left over to armerfend the front and then you would not have to spray it again.

Clive,

I take it you think that £1,900 is extortionate for the front PU, bonnet and wings plus a few digs sorted on the rear PU then?

I am keen not to get ripped off (isn' t every one) so have you got any recommedations on where to go.

Ive just got my 97 back from the bodyshop last saturday, had front bumper resprayed(stone chips and scuff), rear bumper resprayed (two dents and scuffs) front nearside wing dent taken out and repray, rear quarter panel foot long crease taken out and whole rear quarter resprayed and blended, this body shop was recommended by my local maserati dealer and the result is very good!!

The cost £350 for cash!!!

BTW the work needed doing due to previous keeper who kept it on the street in london.

what area of the country are you?(please up date your profile)

wheres this bodyshop? i take it your happy with the results?

Iam down in bournemouth and yep iam happy with the job , there is a small run on the front bumper under the number plate! so not bothered about that, and for £350 my only complaint is that i didnt ask him to do the bonnet as well (you can really notice the stone chips now) so i will probably drop it back down to him to get it done.

yeah i know! i brought the car for 16k, the car has 58k and full porsche history the guy lived in london and parked on a tightly packed street hence why it kept getting bumped and knocked so he thought it was pointless getting it done, but as he used to drive it to spain 3 times a year so he made sure it was properly serviced which is what counts!! Also it has pretty much every option other than aero kit and sat nav!!

Now ive had it resprayed and 8 hours of hard Zymol' ing its a different car! and iam a very happy chappy!

are you coming to Eynsham? if so speak to JCB(digger) im sure he' ll want you on the boxster stand......unless he' s full?

Eynsham? ive heard something about a meet, where can i find out more (when and were?) isnt it near Oxford?

if you have a copy of July' s porsche post. then look at pages 16-17.

it' s the PCGB national event. this year being held at Eynsham hall which is nr Oxford.
it' s taking place over the week-end 30-31 August. and members from all over the country get together for a talk/entertainment/competions/to buy and sell parts..and an awful lot more. it' s huge!!well worth a visit.

I always think having the front PU painted is a double edged sword, as you just know that as soon as it' s done you will end up with a passing lorry pebble dashing you. The joys of owning a car that you care about !!

Quite right

Mines starting to look the same as it did 2 years ago.

The whole front end was done back as far and including the doors.

JCB..

well i' ll come and have a look..

BTW. got a fiat chinquechento(spelling?) resprayed a few years back at a place on the A38 near " the gables" Gloustershire. and he only charged me £250. was a really great job too.
