Hi Guys
I am about to replace the front shocks on my Yellow C4S, does anyone have any tips or advice for me when i attempt this task? Utube links etc?

Anything would do,

Cheers

Mike

Replacing them not that bad Richard will be along to give the right advice. When it's done though you will have to get the geometry done properly so if your thinking of doing anything else like rear shocks or drop links , tyres etc how's the time before the final thing redoing the geometry.

Hi Mike
I have yet to replace mine (yet) so have no immediate experience on a 996. But any youtube video on MacPherson strut removal should give you the general idea. Safety is the main concern as the spring will be stressed even when jacked up, so spring compressors (these can be hired or bought) are a must and ensure they do not slip - injury or damage to the car could result. Without inspecting the 996 strut, you may need a deep socket (or special strut wrench) to undo the top nut, if you want to remove the spring completely from the assembly. It is a fairly straightforward job with the right tools, but suspension components in general are usually big nuts and high torque settings (with some corrosion thrown in the mix).

Quick reply to this and a question.

May need to do the top mounts and bearings on the front of my 996tt.

Will the strut come out without removing the driveshaft from the hub if the correct components are unfastened, as looking at the service manual the hub nut is done up to 450NM..or some similar silly torque. I'm used to my 205Gti which requires drive shaft removal before the hub will lower enough to remove the strut.

Also i note that the forums are arranged by model, so perhaps someone in the 997 forum may also know!

Cheers
J
