REPLACEMENT 944 SCREEN

Hi Guys, came home from shopping today, Motorbike undertakes me & kicks up a few stones as he does so, they hit the screen fairly hard, i looked for damage as i was driving but saw nothing until i got home, at the bottom of the screen, just below where the wipers rest was a chip which as turned into a crack :( wish i'd got his reg number now !, my question is, has anybody had a screen changed by Autoglass ? & is the radio aerial embedded in the screen fitted to every 944 or just the later ones ? & is the quality comparable with a genuine Porsche one ?, cheers, Jinxy

Radio aerial is in 86 onwards screens, they're also slightly wider as they're a flush fit. They come with the plastic/rubber mounting retainer bonded to the back and they have the rear view mirror clip bonded to them too.

The earlier screens sit recessed by about 20mm and don't have the aerial or retainer bonded on. They do have the rear view mirror clip attached though.

I currently have an early screen in my spare room and the quality is excellent, unfortunately I need a later screen so waiting for te windscreen company to swap it over for me next week!

Aha! thanks for the info Eldavo, im away in the Far east for a month from the end of this month & will wait until i come back before i attend to the screen, i bet my bottom dollar that the small 2" crack i have on the screen at the moment will have crept to the top by the time i get back. Im hoping that the quality of the new screen is as good as the original though, i have a MK1 MR2 as well & had to have the original screen replaced a couple of years ago, the new screen is peppered with small chips now from bits of gravel thrown up from other cars, something i always felt the other screen would have coped with. cheers, Jinxy

I had my screen replaced by Autoglass under the insurance. They did a fine job. I have no complaints over the screen quality, it has embedded aerial, the graduated green top-tint and all the things it should have. The chap rolled up and said "Ah, I haven't done one of these in a while!" which was heartening since at least he'd done one before! He took a great deal of care with my beloved 944.

Cheers Glenn, thats put my mind at ease to say the least, cant believe im gonna get hammered for the excess due to some bad rider mororcyclist though, really annoying Grrr.

Well good news, screens all done & i have to say Autoglass did a sterling job, two blokes turned up in two separate vans, it turns out that the fitter was having his yearly assessment done while fitting the screen to my car, which almost certainly guarantees a job well done !, thanks for all the advice guys, cheers, Jinxy
