Hi all,
Had anybody else had repeated problems with the engine management system reporting partial cylinder mis-fires? I've had the coil packs changed 3 times but the "fault" keeps repeating and my warranty is nearly up (more on that later)
The process goes like this: on starting (almost always when the weather is wet) the engine warning light will flash orange and i'll get the message "go to the workshop" (or something similar). When i turn the engine off and restart the message goes away and everything runs normally. I can never tell anything is different and the car drives absolutely normally even without the restart. However, once this has happened 6-10 times the light will stay on and then i call out Porsche Assistance and the coil pack ultimately gets changed. The last guy who recovered teh car (RAC obviously as they do the Assistance) told me that this was a common problem
I have 2 concerns:
1. i'm told that if it's really mis-firing then this will damage the catalytic converter and i'm going to end up at some point with an expensive bill to fix this
2. My warranty is up in 6 months and obviously i do not want to pay for this repeated cycle (let alone the inconvenience). Absent any better advice on this forum i will shortly be writing to Porsche to demand that they extend my warranty to cover this issue free of charge. Does anybody recommend anything else?
Look forward to any thoughts
