Repaired 968

No doubt some members will have seen one of my now numerous wanted adds for a 968.Today I was contacted by the owner of a 968 L REG, 47K SPORT which sounded ideal , but on HPI checking revealed it to be a repaired write off.Asking price £11,500 now seems some what expensive.I must point out that I am formerly a fully skilled refinisher, so fairly good at bodywork. Not having seen the car yet, client points out he had the car repaired at a Mercedes dealer when he bought it, 2 years ago 27K on the clock.
What does anyone think it could really be worth,it has had lot of service work ( gearbox repair, cambelts recently, new rear tyres etc. ),or should I carry on looking for a straight one.
Still looking !

£11,500 way too high for what will be a registered car (or whatever the term is).

Knock £3k off that and it might be worth a punt, otherwise that sort of money is close to buying you a good unmolested one.

I'd walk if I were you.

Hi Robert,

When I was looking i came across a lovely car which had had a fire , had been repaired and was otherwise a great car, however on checking HPI as you did the car was 'listed' as being paid out on. This stigma will always be with the car and therefore it will always be a problem if you come to sell, dealers especially would not touch it. Also I guess they are probably asking such a high price due to the low mileage.Dont necessarily be put off by high mileage, it's the way the car has been serviced and looked after that count's, after all, these cars are now ten years old and high mileage just shows that someones enjoyed it enough to drive it all the time. I got a considerable saving on my high mileage sport....and the bills and service history are enough to write a small novel. My advice is to hang on and for £11000 you should find a great example and an clean and honest car.

All the best

Carol

Walk away Rob. It will always be in the back of your mind that the car has been in a big one, and no matter how expertly rebuilt, it will never be how Porsche intended it to be.

True, these cars are thin on the ground, but they're not that rare.

Have patience and the right one will come along.

Thanks for the clear logical advise,I must throw away the rose tinted glasses and use my head instead of my heart.Patience is a virtue.
Thanks , I will keep looking.
