Repair Panels

Can anybody recommend a supplier of quality repair panels.

Need to now turn my attention to the bodywork.

O/S Sill and N/S Front Wing Lower require attention

Thanks

Sill are available from Porsche. Not cheap, but worth it for the quality of the repair. Just look at Rob Diamonds thread for inspiration. I'm going to be doing mine within the next few weeks and I'm using Porsche sills. M3

The only quality repair panels I've ever seen are Porsche parts, and the sills aren't expensive when you see what you get. It's the entire innner, middle and outer, so if it's more than a localised repair you need then it's a no-brainer. You will see some sill repair sections, but they are pretty much meant as a bodge over the sill, and aren't much use IMO. The outer is such an easy section for a pro that they would easily knock something up anyway. I've not seen any sections for the lower wings, and almost all used ones are rotten in the same place. The guy who did mine had no problems fabricating the repair, it wasn't a complicated job.

Porsche as others have said sell the sills for approx. £130.00 plus vat each. Plus as a PCGB member you will get a minimum 10% discount

When it comes to metal work you should only use proper panels from Porsche , anything you can't get from Porsche you will have to make yourself. You can however buy Porsche panels from other sources, I bought a whole floor including the central tunnel from Promax as he could get it and Porsche GB couldn't get it for me . This photo shows the floor panel on the roof of my car before I fitted it

Also genuine panels fit better and give you the correct lines to work from. Here's a couple of photos of sills etc sill on the roof

Thanks guys much appreciated. Can you confirm that the 944 & 944s have the same body panels as I have found one only 10 miles from me being broken, it appears to have solid front wings. Also can you recommend a budget endoscope suitable for sill inspection as I'm only going to use it once. Cheers

S2 and Turbo front wings are different from the other models but can be reworked i believe ?

Camera phone or compact camera will fit into the sill via the vent and with a flash will illuminate the full length, its trickier with a cab as there are extra bits in there! Tony

I think anyone skilled enough to rework the wings where they are very different (where they join the totally different PU), should be able to fabricate a repair to the existing wings? [8|] The choices are new, expensive but obviously the perfect option. Or, used good wings, nigh on impossible to find. Then there's used, but needing less work than yours, probably an option if yours are really too far gone to save.

Id advise against new wings. I have bought them new when they cost a shade over £200 each and they don't last. You need the factory underseal and it is extremely difficult to replicate. Better to keep the original panels which are sound for the most part and concentrate on repairing and rustproofing these small areas. Ive seen new panels rust through at the arch top! At double their price twenty years ago, that'd be a very expensive disappointment...
