Removing bonnet badge

Can anyone give me any pearls of wisdom to help with this please?
I've read somewhere that it requires an 8mm socket and I know it's a sort of self-tapping nut but I can't get the buggers loose.
Being an oldie, I'm not helped in the eyesight and flexibility areas.
Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi Rob.

Hopefully this may be of some help. My 911 has just gone in today for full PPF fitting and interestingly one of the areas of discussion was that the detailing company remove the badge to fit the paint protection film then refit it.

It is an 8mm socket but the badge is also bonded on with a flexible sealer/waterproof filler to prevent water ingress behind the badge and into the bonnet area. Basically what they do is to warm the badge and undo the 'nuts' x 2 half way then push slightly on the socket/nut upward to gently ease the badge off the body panel. Reverse the process to refit.

If fitting a replacement, the problem is compounded by the fact the badge pins have no thread and the nuts, which are pressed sheetmetal 'cut' a thread of sorts on the pins, most just then bond the badge ( some bend the pins for a tighter fit ) so that anyone attempting to steal the badge just get the badge and there is little or hopefully no damage to the bonnet.

 
Well done Rob. I remember it being a very stressful process trying to change a badge for fear of scratching the paint on the bonnet. Mostly because of the need to exert upward pressure on the badge while unscrewing the self tapping nuts. It seems as if the badges are designed to go on but never come off again!
