Removal of rear light clusters

Hi,
I plan to remove my rear lights to clean them and hope fully stop a small leak when I refit them. has anyone removed their rear light clusters? If so could you advise me the best way to go about this.
I've had a look this evening before it got dark and cant quiet work out how they come detached. Also they have a load of black 'gunk' around them. Should this be here or is it an after thought to seal them?

Assuming they're the same as a 968, pull the carpet off the rear of the boot, get the plug spanner out of the tool kit, look in behind the light cluster and you'll see a large black knob (which may or may not be behind a black rubber plug) that you undo with the plug spanner - then the light cluster pulls out - easy. Did it on the forecourt of Halfods Autocentre a while back when he failed my cab on non-working rear fogs - it turned out the tester did not know you have to have the front fogs on before the rears will operate!!

Pull the carpet like u would change a bulb. There 6/8 nuts, remove then push out. MIT be guled in with the out gunk/ slicone.

Puting back really isn't a job you can do out side, unless ur gaurented dry weather. As if it rains will create a hole/ another leak.

The gunk is mastic, can get it from Frosts.

If it has been sealed with mastic the gently warm it all up with a hairdryer and it will come out much easier that trying to wrestle with a solid block of cold gunk that risks snapping something

You need to undo the six nuts and yank them off.

Ref the "small leak" - just worth checking the tailgate catch drain tubes that run outside of the light clusters to make sure they are clear. I found one of mine was blocked and was causing condensation on the inside of the lights.

Certainly should be there! It's often a cause of leaks when people fit replacements without using it.
