Regrettable S2 Sale

Well, I went out and bought another car (1965 Mustang) and I've been badgered into selling the S2. We really don't have room for both the Mussie and the S2, and I don't have the money to tidy it up now I've spent out on the new one. My girlfriend is very persuasive!

I don't have any photos ready yet and will put it on the "for sale section" next week, but I would love to see it go to a club member so will mention it here first. Apologies if mentioning it here is wrong, an admin can delete it if it is!

It's a 1989 S2, light blue with the blue pinstripe half leather interior. Approximately 181k miles. It has got a lot of service history but was off the road for a few years a while ago. Since I've owned it I've had the engine mounts changes, both sills and rear quarters done. I've changed the DME relay, fuel pressure regulator, plugs, fuel/oil/air filters. Full engine and transaxle oil changes. I had the rear part of the fuel lines replaced too. Bonnet struts are new too, a small job to remedy a really annoying problem! I had it checked last year and all cylinders have good compression and there are no hydrocarbons in the coolant.

It has a few minor ding/scuffs (rear left bumper corner, front left wing small dent). A couple of the bushes were also noted as a bit perished on a Porsche health check. The passenger seat cloth is a little worn and the drivers seat bolster a bit ripped. The dash has the usual cracks. It flew through the MOT a couple of months ago with no advisories.

I was on the verge of getting a respray done for £2-2.5k at the Spray Shack (Dunmow) as the paint is a bit faded and has a couple of scratches. Elliott also has a matching interior and dash that I was going to have fitted, easier than having the seats retrimmed with very bright and new cloth!

The car has been taken to the club stand at Helmingham Hall show, so some club members have seen it. I've loved owning it and was looking forward to bringing it back to it's full glory. Hopefully in a few years I'll pick up another S2 as I honestly can't fault them (apart from the stupid electric motor driven boot mechanism, great when you have a flat battery). I'm going to hang around just in case one comes up and I have the money back in the bank....

I was going to advertise at £2.5k on ebay, or starting auction at £2k. Haven't decided yet!

Not many good ones so far. It was sourced by a company with an excellent reputation, tied in with the owners club. It's not in the country yet. It's not a show winner but is in good condition. The photos are low res but I should get proper ones shortly. Not my first choice of interior colour though.

love it and really like the red interior,,is that candy apple red?,,great choice,,neighbour has a marine blue? ,imported by his 80 yr old mother decades ago,,love the sound,,good luck with your sale chris,,,jasonp

Pretty gutted though, wanted to keep the S2, but I worked out that I wanted to spend £4k on it over the winter on the interior and exterior. There's no way I can afford that and afford the other.

yeah,,know where your coming from,,stepping over to an air-cooled in the near future and if we havent moved by then,,my s2 may have to go,, even now i am still not sure,, if i could let her go,funny ,how these cars get under your skin,,,

I'll miss the cornering, I doubt if there are any £2k cars you can have as much fun in. Even in it's untidy state I get waves and nods from people. A couple months ago I had a very curious Harley rider pulling alongside a few times, I then got the nod of approval before he roared off.

Very nice Chris - I've just bought a 2.7 944 but have rebuilt a '66 fastback from a wreck ... (which I still have)

Who are you using for the importation process?

The car was sourced by Classic American Restoration Services in Waltham Abbey and is being imported by STS. Both companies are run by members of the Mustang Owners Club GB, really nice and helpful guys. To be honest I could probably sell the car the minute it arrives and pocket £3-5k profit, but there's no way I'd do that.

I'd love a fastback, next car perhaps.

Ah, Phil King - know him well. Built the 347 stroker in my Fback ...

And Ron at STS is great as well ... He's brought a lot of parts in for me and others in the club.

Look forward to seeing uou over on the mocgb.net owners club site ...
