recommendations for 15 inch tyres

At front runner I noticed that several of the 944s were still on the 15 inch phone dials. What tyres would you guys recommend in 215/60 15?

I'm considering going to 16 inch because Porsche's recommended tyres are all in that size and they're all performance tyres, whereas all the 215/60 tyres seem to emphasise comfort and long life - criteria I'm not overly bothered by. The only problem is that I hate the idea of wheel spacers and 16 inch wheels with the early offset seem as rare as rocking horse poo.

Or is my dislike of wheel spacers irrational? Using them would make things easier...

In the 15 inch size? A quick peek at the Dumlop website showed they couldn't find anything in the standard size for a 1986 944.

quick edit: Having said that. Following a link produced the following:"Error 404: SRVE0190E: File not found: /webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/LGConsumerCartCmd"
so I'm not overly confident that their web-site wasn't programmed by morons. Hmmm... maybe i should have our sales dude get in touch with them.

i've got some 150mph dunlops. :)

Not sure about 215/60's but when my S was on 15's I used Dunlop Fast Response 195/65's and thought they were very good.

search www.mytyres.co.uk and there are a few options, albeit 50% of them are budget typre brands (Cooper, Maxxis etc)

The better mid range options (V rated) would be Kumho Solus KH17 (£85 fitted), Hankook Optimo K415 (£82 fitted), and Semperit TopSpeed2 (part of Continental) at £79 fitted.

If you are happy to drop a speed rating then Falken Ziev ZE912 are £80 each fitted.

If you want Continental or Goodyear you are looking at another £35-40 each.

When you talk about "Porsche Recommended", are you talking about the "R" rating (or whatever it is)?

Oli.

I'm currently running on Bridgestone ER300 195/65 R15 V (91).As I recollect these are rated to 130 / 140mph, and cost about £60 a corner to fit with blackcircles.com. They were also well rated on the blackcircles website.

I meant the sizes listed in the summer tires for classic vehicles document at http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/porscheservice/documentsanddownloads/

can only see 16 and 17 listed there for a 944, but if you look at 924S the dunlop fastresponse 195/65 are listed. 195/65 are also listed in the 944 manual. I've got them on mine as i couldn't find much for 215/60 and they've been great; never lost traction.

edit; despite the avatar pic the car is back on its 15" teles, the 16" 968 wheels are in the shed until i get round to putting decent tyres on them.
