Recomendations for battery

Morning Chaps,

Any recommendations for a new battery?

The current one is the Porsche part with the breather pipe. I would like to keep this feature if possible but not if the cost is unreasonable.

Car is a '90 Turbo

Cheers

I bought a Porsche one for approx £80 about five years ago. I replaced it this winter with a Halfords heavy duty Calcium one. Five year guarantee for £60, the exact model was in their look up charts.

I used to fit these Oddysey batteries to my Westfield Vx twin cam 2.0 L and tuned Rover V8 powered Ginetta G27.

I fitted the PC 680, (as big as a car radio/cassette player) and a lot lighter than standard batteries but it turned over the engines no probs.

Warning, use an ordinary battery to turn over if the starting is uncertain or after a rebuild as the secret is sheet lead (not cast) so the gap between the lead layers is tiny as the tolerances over cast lead are smaller so use a conditioner NOT a charger.

Light but with awesome power (use an `Optimate` battery conditioner NOT a trickle charger)

NB: They are rebadged as `Red top` racing batteries as sold by Demon thieves et al but are cheaper via Knight Batteries.

Its what I will put in mine before the years out.

Ditto. Did it this month (look here). Model number is HCB075.

Cheers,

Jim.

Me too, the calcium one was smaller and lighter than the porsche one but rated higher, and there are two positions for the hold down clamp so it fitted fine.

Just thought I would give you some feedback on this one.

Bought the Halfords job in July '05 and it's dropped a cell on me. Only showing 10.5 volts with engine off.

Will only just start the car when it's cold and the alarm beeps while it's cranking.

I have the reciept so I'll pop into Halfords sometime soon and report back on what they say.

Blimey Robbie, nearly two years in between posts [;)]

Next time you post, the replacement battery will close to it's original 5 year warranty :ROFLMAO:

Can we tempt you out for some trackdays this year or are you still driving that borrowed upturned bathub that weighs 600kg with 400bhp []

Pauls,

It's not a bathtub it's a fish pond. And it was 450kg and 200bhp (Radical Prosport). But it's been sold and we have a Porsche 948 as a replacement (that's got you guessing). OK it's a 944 with 968 engine gearbox and diff. The plan was to sprint it in place of the Radical (which required too much maintenance and had a rendency to let us down), but that is on hold for the moment. So we may use it for some track days.

I have threatened to take my 944 to the 'Ring this year but have to sort some tyres as it still has the SO2's it had when I bought it and they have a couple of puncture repairs. I wouldn't feel safe pushing it.

Look forwad to bumping into you guys (not literaly) in the near future.

Not far wrong Paul, the replacement they gave me has just gone. too much time spent in the garage in the winter with an alarm connected.

Looking for a replacement now.

I've only recently replaced the Bosch S5 in my S2 after 12 years/80k miles. I think it only died because I allowed it to discharge completely over the winter. A replacement was £81.54 delivered from carparts4less.co.uk where you can enter your reg and they will list compatible parts. I'd recommend getting the highest capacity one.
