Rain sensor over sensitive

Hi all

New to Porsche ownership and new to the forums/club. Have had a lot of issues with my 987.2 Cayman, thankfully the supplying dealer seems to be accommodating in their resolution. Will spare the full saga but since the car had a new screen (long story) the rain sensors seem hyper sensitive - on ’auto’ they are almost permanently on, regardless of the speed setting selected. Is this a fixable issue or am I going to have to get it looked at again? :-(

Welcome t the club and the register Tom.

There are many factors affecting the auto wipers but, given the recent 'saga' and replacement screen it has to be likely that this is linked. It might be possible to reset the system if your dealer has access to the PIWIS code reader. Certainly a Porsche OPC or independent specialist would be my first port of call for an inial diagnosis.

There may be others on here soon with their knowledge and experience, but please let us know how you get on.

Just my thoughts but did they they replace the gel adhesive pad when they replaced the screen or reuse the original one, as far as I'm aware these should be replaced.

Porsche part No 4E0-955-609 is also an Audi part number.

make sure the screen is clean on the outside around the sensor and that the wipers are actually clearing the area ( easy for wipers to be refitted incorrectly in a screen change )

also. Not sure if the sensor is directly attached to the screen or is part of the mirror on a 987.2 but if it’s separate then make sure there’s no greasy finger prints on it.

 
Thanks all for your responses so far. Have thoroughly cleaned the screen around the sensor and it made no difference. Will check the clearances/contact and report back. Sounds like either way it will need to go somewhere for it to be checked. It’s a pity as in every other way the car is nearly spot on.

 
I checked the sensor with a spray bottle and watched for contact on the screen and it seems OK. Dealer has agreed to send someone out to investigate/check rather than me drive 50 miles to get it sorted (would be the fourth time it’s been back), so fingers crossed it’s resolved next week.

Hi All

Update so far. Supplying dealer sent a technician to check the rain sensor - he suspects the sensor itself was damaged when the windscreen was installed so a new sensor is being fitted on Tuesday.

Fingers crossed!
