OK So as most of you will know I have been rebuilding my S2 for a while now ( several years) . Well today was the day it was going to be started for the first time in 4 years and since the engine has been freshened up.
Ok so top up gearbox oil ( loads of people forget than when your car is idling the gearbox is still turning)
Right put petrol in it
Hook up battery

First thing that happens is that the alarm goes mental clicking on and off .
Track down the problem to door light switch in passenger door, switch is shorting against door as it is not screwed in.
Ok turn key

car cranks over oil pressure comes up.

ok connect coil and turn key. car cranks not firing.

Bugger

check fuel pump

no continuity across plug in wiring on the bottom of the tank. Remove plug and rewire using good connectors.

Ok getting fuel.

check for spark.

getting spark

cool

ok turn key and car fires for about 2 seconds then i notice a huge spray of fuel coming from tank.

bugger

turn car off

discover that the crimp on the end of fuel pipe ( one from Porsche ) is leaking swear very much swear some more.

Drain tank and remove pipe to be fixed in the morning.

go home ....................................[:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(]

Bad luck! Here a popular saying is "you never really learn to swear until you start driving"...apparently not enough people work on their own cars [:D]

Oh unlucky Colin - It's getting when you're at the end and something like that happens. Great news that it's all working and fired up though [8D]

Look on the bright side Colin!

You'll get it running soon enough (and what's an extra day in your multi-year rebuild).

At least the petrol didn't spray onto something hot!!!

I could have been worse. I was going to go down to garage tonight but decided against it just cause I need a day off from fuel lines etc.
