Pre-'85 Alternator

Well, I guess it still could be! Elliot kindly also provided me with a 2nd hand regulator that I swapped out; bushes looked okay, but minimal voltage outputted...

ORIGINAL: A9XXC

What makes you think its not the regulator?
Its the bit that gives the most regular problems, often the brushes/contacts anything over about half worn can give problems and the bridge diodes can break down.

if any one has one for an S2 please let me know.. even it's to borrow while I send mine away for rebuild.. I would rather send mine away

Ok [:)]

I have an early alternator without a regulator assembly, which was working really well a couple of years ago, whereabouts are you?

deep south next to the water and the IOW

thanks for the offer I will now start to work towards sorting this out I will call the local guy tomorrow and ask about his lead times etc etc if a few days I can live with that if longer I could be very interested thanks

Can anyone reccomend a tried and tested source for either refurbishment or parts?

Porsche prices for the regulator and diode plate seem a touch pricey:

928 603 142 00-------Regulator---------£128.62
944 603 901 00-------Diode Plate-------£143.92
944 603 143 00-------Condenser--------£11.64

That they are! My Porsche dealership said they could indeed find me a new alternator from their parts repository in Germany - for over £500!

964 603 141 00-------944 Voltage Regulator (85.5-)------------ ~ £13.20
