power hood problems

The power hood on my cab has recently failed. It is in the raised position so no probs driving the car. When the switch is pressed to lower the hood nothing happens. There is no noise from the gears, rams or motor. When the switch is pressed to raise the hood, the side windows slide down as expected. This fault developed at the same time as my indicators went on the blink- easily cured with a new relay. I have checked all the simple electrical fuses and relays and these seem OK. This has been confirmed by my OPC when the car was in for new belts and annual service. They did not have time to chase the fault in the hood stating it would require "commitment level investigation". Anybody out there experience similar probs with either 944 or 968 cabs? Any advice would be extremely useful.

First thing to do is get straight onto www.968.net and search the archives there. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, and there are many more cab owners on that list. Best of luck, and happy xmas!

Hi Tim, I had similar problems with my S2, i removed and cleaned the switch it's self, sounds to easy but it worked. Same thing happened with the windows on my 3.2. Same cure.

Thanks guys! I'LL check on the simple things again. I remember the service history details from AFN recorded a problem with a microswitch (on buying the car in 1999, I was given a computer printout from Chapelgate which recorded all the service history and expenditure on the car from new, even minor details and workshop comments). They stated that contacts were bent to get the switch to function, but recommended a replacement as a long term cure. I believe they were referring to the hood mechanism, but I will check. I had totally forgotten about this and it now seems a logical place to start. Many thanks for pointing me back in this direction!
