Possible Bore Score?

Hi Ant,

Difficult to comment based upon your attached photo, but I’d be inclined to follow your Indie’s guidance on this. At 80k there’s bound some bore wear, and if you’re not experiencing any problems it’s best to assume that all’s well and just continue enjoying your car.

Hello everyone, just had a borescope carried out on my 2007 S. The indi states that the cylinder walls condition is typical for 80k miles. The engine doesn't present any symptoms whatsoever (no oil burn etc). I believe there is some streaking, but I don't believe it's score. Thoughts?
 
Understood Ant. As always, one man’s light marking is another man’s bore scoring!😀

As I said, at 80k miles on a performance car you’d have to expect a certain amount of bore wear, but if the engine isn’t using oil then it shouldn’t be an issue to a potential buyer.

Hope you manage to get a sale.

Agree with Jeff's comments.

If running fine burning hardly any oil to be expected slight wear on 80k .

If it's got to this mileage no probably got a good few left in it yet with regular oil changes.

People get to hooked up about it it's not a brand new car.

Thanks gents - all of the other cylinders look like new. The pistons are super clean of carbon. She will be getting new oil every 5k. Im not sure if to ask in the same post but, is it normal for the cabin noise to be quite loud, I'm not referring to road, exhaust sound, but more so auxiliaries of the engine. I had a Boxster with the same engine, that didn't sound as bad. It doesn't sound specific to a single component, more like overall sound of the engine. It's almost like a wheezy supercharger. Just had it serviced at an indi, they didn't comment on it (but he didn't comment on the knock coming from driver side rear, which I didn't tell him about as a test of competence).

I can’t say that’s the case on my 987.2 CS Ant, although I can’t compare it with the Boxster [which has a different cabin shape as well as a soft roof], but remember that the engine auxiliaries are directly behind you. If the car’s just been serviced I wonder if the tech has had the engine or bulkhead covers off and not ensured that they’re sealed correctly and that the sound absorption material isn’t damaged? It doesn’t take much for sound to creep through the tiniest of holes.
