Porsche Outdoor Car Cover

I have just purchased a Porsche outdoor cover for my Macan. Cover fits great and looks good, however at the rear of the cover stitched inside are two, what I can only assume to be the security straps to prevent the cover from being nicked, (not sure why as a simple pair of tin snips would chop through them no problem) anyway back to the question in hand which is where the hell are these supposed to go ???
Instructions say and I quote " 4. Lock the anti-thief strings into the bonnet (Cayanne....into the rear doors) and that is it" !!
I have spoken to two main dealers who have no idea and now Porsche GB who asked it it would work if I put the cover on back to front !! Really, on a custom fit cover !!! Porsche badge at the front, number plate window at the rear, wing mirror pockets etc etc !!
Does any one have any idea ?? How can Porsche sell a cover that no one knows how to use ??
Really disappointed with this and at £225 I wish I had bought a custom after market one instead of this load of sh**e [:mad:]
 
I've not seen one and it's not obvious from your photo, but could it be the straps are meant to be placed within the boot compartment, so the cover cannot be removed once the car has been locked? [;)]

Yep tried that but it is really hard to open the boot and then stop it with a small gap as it starts peeling the cover off as soon as it starts opening.
If you look at the photo below, when fitted the straps would be inside one just above the zip on the left and mirrored on the other side.
One dealer said you should put them through the rear wheels and padlock them on !!! This would be really hard grovelling under the car especially when it is wet.
Got to say I think it is in the boot but just amazed that no one from Porsche knows [>:]
 
Not sure where you live but is theft really going to be an issue?

No is the answer, not really but you never know.

And neither do I, I'm going to tape it up with gaffer tape. Front is better [:D]
 
Maybe it's for thieves to help them decide if the car worth nicking or not. :rolleyes:

I suppose the zip is intended to allow the cover to be peeled back for access to the luggage compartment.

Interesting this hasn't cropped up before. May be an indication as to how few covers have been sold.

We've got a non-Porsche cover for the Cayman, no logo, zips or windows. It's been on our front drive for 2 years now and no one has ever tried to steal it, presumably as it only fits Cayman and Boxter cars. It just has 3 straps which go under the car and stop it getting caught by the wind and some elastic.
 

likewise my covers on three cars - never attempted to be stolen - but wind is another story. They have tie-down straps around the B pillar area underneath the car - which in 50+ winds I need to tie down - just with knotted nylon cord provided.
You'd think there wasn't much likelihood of a custom fit car cover being stolen - but a member on here I think a year or two back had his GTS centre-lock wheels stolen from his garage - and they're not going to fit the local tea-leaf's beemer are they. Anyway, I don't bother trying to lock mine or secure it other than string in strong winds.
I don't use the porsche one though - use a thicker fleecy one from another supplier which has served me well through snow and ice and summer 'pollen' and 'bird' rain.
 
If security is a translation in the instructions of sicherheit I think in this context it might mean attachment rather than prevention of theft. The straps on our grey breathable outdoor cover which they sell on here are in front of and behind front and back wheels respectively. We use these all the time all year round and if it's really windy we use a third middle one under the car. I suppose if it got stolen we'd buy another cover. It must be handy if you can get into the boot without taking the cover off.
 
I would if I could but I got it off e-bay, brand new, unwanted and unused !! I can see why now [:D]
Porsche UK came back to me and have no idea what the straps are for or where they go and even they told me to take it back to the dealer I bought it from and say it's not fit for purpose !!
Where do I go next, Porsche Germany ?
In summary, cover is good quality, security straps are pointless, if it get's windy the only thing that holds it on is the elastic at the front and a couple of draw strings at the back so it blows off. (I have had to buy some canopy clips and additional straps to hold it on.
Would I buy another Porsche car cover, not in a million years although the indoor ones we use at work seem pretty good.
