It has been pointed out that there is nothing about the Porsche Club event at Harewood Hill on 18th May on this Forum.

This Event is a National Event organised by the Clubhouse team, rather than. by the R7 CoG

It should be an excellent day out at a great venue.

Here is a link to the Event page for more details and how to book a place.

I know this is a National Event. I am going as a spectator but I am trying to find out what the programme is for the day. The only information on the web site is that gates open at 10am. On the Harewood site it isn't even mentioned, which isn't a surprise for a private event. I have emailed the Club Events Manager and the only response so far is that they aren't aware of a programme for the day but will ask Harewood. Not impressed.
If anyone reading this has any idea of what is happening on the day and when, it would be great if you could summarise it please. Or perhaps even give an indication of the programme for last year, if you went to that.
Many thanks!

After a chaser I've now had a reply from Club Events as follows:
"Gates will open at 8am for hill run cars, and sign on will take place in the paddock, followed by the driver briefing at 9am, and shortly after sighting runs will take place, and then full runs will begin..

The general gates open at 10am, it is a full day of cars, I don't believe there is a specific timetable for the fun runs."

What still isn't obvious is whether there is a specific timetable for when the really experienced hillclimbers in the fastest cars will be giving it their all in a competitive environment. If anyone knows, please comment! Many thanks.

Hi Brian,

I believe the format is the same as last year, where the runs were not competitive, nor timed, everyone was able to drive the course at their own pace. Members who purchased a ticket to run up the hill, had 5 or 6 runs allocated to be used at their leisure. It was a case of queue up at the staring gate when you were ready and the Start marshal controlled it from there.

Driver briefing was 09.00
Sighting runs for drivers followed this.
With the fast runs taking place from 10.00
The course closed about 12.30 to allow the Marshall a break period and then the afternoon session took place.

A few Porsche sprint competitors, with competition cars were present and did some passenger runs and demo runs.

The main aim of the day, was to allow Porsche owners to experience and enjoy their cars safely on the hill climb track, hence the non competitive element. As far as I know the format is due to be the same this year.

Hope this helps.

Tony

Hi Tony, very many thanks for a really helpful explanation of what is (likely to be) happening on the day. I get the picture now. Looking forward to it.

Beware of speedtraps on the A659 in Collingham, always there when Harewood Hillclimbs are on. Usually on the outskirts heading towards Harewood, beware going in both directions! It must be a good money earner!
