Hi, I have a 2002 996 with the above radio fitted as standard. I'd like to keep it standard. When I bought the car a couple of years ago it had a couple spare wires in the frunk which were obviously for audio equipment. i.e. 2 RCA leads and a control plug of some sort. Obviously factory fitted. However nothing attached. What is supposed to be attached if anything as 'standard' and can I just attach a bluetooth module to the rca leads and run my phone through it without the controller for example?

Most UK 996's were supplied with CD Changer preparation, and it sounds like that's what you have. The cable goes to a plug behind the radio, but it isn't usually plugged in. They go into sockets C2 & C3 on the attached.
The next post shows the basic wiring diagram for the radio, so hopefully you can extract the information you need from that. (Can't have 2 attachments on one post.....)

I have the same leads in the frunk of my 986 from a cd changer but I opted for an aftermarket bluetooth dongle which fitted straight into the back of the wiring harness of the head unit. It was simple to fit taking about 20 minutes and works very well. I will see if I can find a link if you like.

With it being over a year ago the original listing has ended but this link takes you to a very similar product. My adaptor was £14 so they appear to have lowered in value since then. Obviously I would recommend you double check any specs etc as this was just a quick ebay search.

Does anyone know what my stereo name/ code is - I have the unit with cassette player, nav and cd changer. I was looking to use the same blue tooth as above, but the connector into the back of the stereo from the cd changer is different from the one pictured in the ebay product listed above. Mine has a double row of terminals rather than triple pictured in the listing.
Many thanks, Graham

That will be PCM1 Graham. The CD drive below the radio is for the map disk. The CD Changer is in the front compartment.

PhilKent said:pgups, the little bluetooth dongle thing you suggested works a treat. Thanks for the tip.
No worries! It’s a great little gadget for very little money. I haven’t tried it yet but it could potentially double up as a hands free? on the iPhone you Could select the speaker during a phone call to the Bluetooth device and then the phone’s microphone should pick up your voice?
