'Porsche buddies' and Club equipment

'Porsche buddies', here's how it works. A member has 1-5 spanner icons placed next to their avatar and in the Members list. We can refine the grading as we go along but to start with 5 spanners equals a spanner wielding hero and 1 spanner would be someone who might have enthusiasm but wants to learn or has facilities only. Members could ring people on the list as they would know that they are people who are really interested in helping out in whatever way. Also a member using this service would out of courtesy offer to meet the 'Porsche buddies' travelling costs and keep them nourished with an a la carte menu and fine wines..........just joking but I hope this illustrates the idea.

It could be announced in Porsche Post and there could be a duplicate 'Buddies' list there; members could be persuaded to visit here and leave their details on line. That way they have a positive reason for paying a visit if they are a little reluctant.

Secondly we should, in my humble opinion, as a car club own a lot more equipment. ie engine stands , jacks; the big stuff as spanners will go missing, but special Porsche tools should be obtained too. We could invent a scheme where members who didn't return equipment were publicly humiliated in specially constructed Porsche stocks -we could throw old oil and air filters at them..... madness aside what does everyone think are these ideas goers?

Interesting idea Melv but might be some issues regarding liability of the club if information was wrong or not acted on properly - Its all about who you trust I suppose - does a spanner rating help?

The club should have more equipment, it did (maybe still does) have some tools - I rebuilt a 3.2 engine from scratch with the clubs 911 tools and an engine stand from a friendly specialist. Don't know if their still available or if additions have been made for later models.

Tony did you read the thread on the SC forum, if you're immeadiately suspicious and worried about club members sueing each other and the club then this is clearly not for you. Whilst you have every right to form your own opinions about this I would implore you to reconsider your initial doubts and get behind this as a fellow spanner weilder. The next step is to get the club PROPERLY equipped via the next AGM to support this scheme. It has already had good feedback, if you have doubts email me and I'll send you my phone no. as it's incorrect in PP and we can chat about it, don't be hasty, this scheme needs your's and everybody's support.

If you have enthusiasm Des that's a spanner for me. This is an inclusive scheme for ALL club members, everybody is welcome, give yourself a spanner

I really like the idea. However as someone who lent out his engine stand to another member three years ago and when that member subsequently lent it to another member and I still don't have it back or even recieved acknowledgement of my ownership of said stand I would have to say it could be frought with problems

Well that sucks Lawrence, having just borrowed an engine stand and then returned it I can say not all club members are like that and I'm shocked. However if we set up the buddies scheme members who abuse the system could be liable to a visit from the 'Porsche Heavies' ie we stick together. Incidentally I abhor violence but a little gentle persuasion applied with the right spanner sometimes helps, you should name and shame those people.

Bones how do I give myself a spanner? Just found an old Bradbury Jack in the garage....

So what's the problem? It has to be mechanical or related problem this is not a counselling service!
