Relatives Boxster has Porche CR-22 stereo and a few weeks ago it started intermittently cutting out and restarting when driving (similar cut out to when you start the engine).
It only happened when the car was driving and did not find any loose connections in the wiring to the unit and wiggling the wiring loom didn’t cause cut out.
Took car for a drive until it started happening and then when it started cutting out, pulled over with the engine running and unit stayed on whilst car was stationary. Then, whilst stationary revved the engine and the unit cut out and restarted each time the engine was revved.
Tested alternator and it was working properly so looks like increasing revs was causing voltage fluctuation which caused unit protection circuitry to cut and restart unit.
Added a basic ‘DC-DC converter’ into the wiring loom (see photos) to regulate the input voltage and it no longer cuts out.
Got the DC-DC converter on Amazon (for next day delivery) and used 2 double-pole connectors so could unplug it and reconnect existing wiring. Connected the converter to the constant positive and earth on the wiring loom to the unit and removed the air-con control unit above the unit to improve access.
Hope this helps.
