Poor quality rear lights?

bones

New member
I have a 964 look to my SC , recently the near side rear light cluster stopped working . On taking the light cluster out to replace the bulb failure I suspected was the problem I was surprised to find the main light/brake light holder had rusted so badly that the terminals inside had literally disintegrated. I inspected the lense and found a slight crack on the underside where water (from washing as it generally never sees bad weather) has got in and done the damage. This is a genuine Porsche part and I w wondered if anyone else has had a problem with the lense cracking and causing this to happen?

Bones, im sure there were revised lights with vents in to stop this happening and also the dye was better and didnt turn pink as quick.
Dont have mine anymore so can help any more than that !

They did look different from light level though, if i remember correctly between the top of the light and the boot lid it looked like a grill afair so you may be able to see if you have old or new fitted.
Mine was a '93 late model revised

Dug thro my pics and found a rear end shot [;)]

You can see the vents here

Thanks Elliot, my lights semm to be a combination of early and late . They have the same look as yours with the cut outs in the black plastic that surrounds the light lense. I also have gaskets fitted as they didn't look right on the SC without them. I think the earlier cars have greater tolerances round panels so the 964 light clusters seemed to have too much space around them.
I've sourced a light cluster wire and bulb holder loom from Porsch-apart for £15.00 and I'm going to carefully run a bead of clear epoxy around the light lense to try and seal it, if that doesn't work I'll have to buy a new one.
