Archie, I think that : 1. The recommended interval is 4-years/40,000 miles (but check your service document); 2. Replacing the plugs is optional. I wouldn't think that it's necessary to replace the plugs after only 4,000 miles. However, it's not a bad idea to whip the plugs out every couple of years if only to ensure that they don't seize; in which case the additional cost to replace them is small in comparison with the labour costs. Hope that helps. Jeff

Plug change

The cars booked in for a major service. They are wanting to change the spark plugs (£230?)as I am told they should be done every 2 years.
The car has only done 4000 miles since they were last changed and I really don't think it's necessary as the car is running well.
Am I right?

Hi Archie, same as you as my Turbo s is due major service and they want to replace plugs. car has only done 5000 miles total but as it is still under warranty I guess it has to be done. I wouldn't want problems with seized plugs.
My mistake, yes every 4 years. I would have thought in a major service that it would be routine to take the plugs out for a quick check anyway?!

Change? Yes. Do them yourself - less than £100 dependant on your choice of plug.

But much,much cheaper!
ORIGINAL: Giff Surprisingly time consuming and annoying job though!
You would think at a major service they would take the plugs out anyway to check them? Anyway, I'll get them changed just to keep all the ticks in the boxes correct. Thanks guys.
I got the car back today from its major service... With the plugs changed ! I am not convinced they needed replaced and still think a clean up would have done, but hey, it's done now. It keeps the service book correct as well I suppose.. Anyway, very happy with the service provided at the Porsche centre.
