Plastic trim under windscreen, at top of engine compartment?

Hi all

I'm talking about the plastic trim that collects the water from the bottom of the windscreen, and directs it to the two drain vents in the engine compartment, by the fusebox and in the corresponding location on the other side of the car. It also covers the mechanism for the windscreen wipers etc.

Firstly, what's this bit of trim called?
Secondly, where can I get a new one from? (An answer to point one might well make me able to answer point two myself!)
Thirdly, how do I remove this said bit of trim? (Again, an answer to point one might help here, but I've searched with no luck).
Finally, are there any major electronics under this bit of trim? (I can't get it off to see).

My car has a sporadic starting problem, and when it won't start (which seems to be when it's been raining) and I turn the key, there's a whistling / blowing noise coming from under this bit of trim. I'd like to have a look under there and see what's going on, and also see if there's anything electronic there that should be kept dry. (The trim piece in question has a few cracks in it). I've got an auto electrician coming to look at the car tomorrow, but it would be nice to have some idea what the problem is before then, and to know how to get that piece of trim off in case I need to get under there. Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks muchly.

Very briefly Giles, this parts price has rises and risen and its now close to £100 from Porsche. The 968 used a modified part which is both better and cheaper. Look on the PET (catalogue) for the part number.

945 752 063 03 heater cover £64:29+

I had the 968 part number and price written down somewhere.

Thirdly, how do I remove this said bit of trim? Lift rubber trim from enginge bay bulkhead and remove wipers
Finally, are there any major electronics under this bit of trim? Fan heater motor

Can give you part no. for scuttle when I get home tonight if you want?

Hi Giles,

To remove, the rubber seal just pulls off at the front, and you need to remove both wipers and the nut under each one (or one wiper if the trim is already cracked, as mine is). Mark the position of the wipers so you can put them back on in the same position (I didn't and now it looks funny!).

There are two vacuum actuators under there that operate the air intake flaps. These are fed by a hose that goes through the scuttle via the blower box and then into a solenoid valve on the HVAC unit.

Incidentally I'm looking for the bolts/nut that attach the vacuum actuators having stupidly lost mine (see my post in freecycle if anyone has one!). Does anyone have a knackered blower unit I can salvage these off?

Many thanks for super quick & informative responses, gents. Looks like a 968 heater cover / scuttle is the way forward, and I should now be able to get the old one off tonight (though IIRR mine has some clip type things holding it to the base of the windscreen, wonder if it's been put back wrong in the past) and see what's going on underneath. Hope this bloody rain stops.

Cheers.

Just for anyone interested, the part number is now 945.572.063.08.01C for the scuttle for both 944s and 968s. Price is 58.44 plus VAT.

£64:29 is still the list price, so theve given you about 10% off there. Sorry about the typo in my earlier post, in which I inverted the 5 and the 7.

Not a problem Simon, I appreciated the quick response and info, and the part number was close enough for the OPC to know what I meant!
