Placing order this week

Hi Guys,

I am about to place my order for a 911 C2S Cab and would be interested in your opinons on the spec that i intend on. Does anyone know if the wind deflector is standard as i cannot see it listed on the Porsche website as an option?

The spec is:

Meteor Grey
Black Leather
PCM
Telephone? (is this worthwhile as i cant be bothered to keep taking the sim out of my phone?)
Bose
CD Six changer? (can you load a CD into the PCM without have to remove the DVD?)
ParkAssist
19" Sport Design
Cruise
Sports Seats
Heated Seat

Are there any other options that you think would be worthwhile?

Thanks for all your help

Ben

Good Spec, I would definately go for the PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust) get the dealer to demonstrate the difference between the standard exhaust and the PSE

As the PCM DVD has its own player in the boot I would leave out the CD changer as the single CD in the dash plays MP3 discs so you can get the equivilent of six cd's onto one MP3CD.

Telephone is now much improved over original ones as the mic has been repositioned so people you talk to can actually hear you. Get you phone provider to issue you with a dual sim that way you avoid having to take the sim out each time

Good Luck

Nice spec, would add the multi function steering wheel - find it useful operating the 'phone and audio. I have a very similar spec in my C2S but find I never use the cruise control. I have a sunroof, but again don't use it much and it suffers from wind buffeting so wouldn't recommend. The coloured centre caps set off the wheels nicely, though.

I also have a C2S Cab. These are my top 10 options in order:

1) Sports exhaust system - I retrofitted later, a must have
2) Navigation module for PCM - love that traffic re-routing
3) Tyre Pressure Monitoring system - already saved my butt once after a major puncture!
4) Sport Chrono Package Plus - although the clock is not pretty
5) Adaptive Sports Seats - very comfy
6) Sport Shifter - I retrofitted later
7) Heated Seats - needed for a Cab
8) Multi functional steering wheel - don't like the look of the standard one, although this is quite a 'thin' wheel
9) ParkAssist -very useful
10) Rear section of centre console in exterior colour - looks great in basalt anyway ;)

Options I have but could live without:

1) 6 CD multi-changer - your main PCM can play MP3 CDs with up to 120 songs on each making the 6 CD changer just added car weight!
2) Cruise Control - although when the motorways are quiet using this does give good MPG
3) Telephone module - I tend to use my free work phone instead, plus with the car phone you have to shout a bit so people can hear you

Hope that helps a little...

Also, don't be drawn into purchasing Zymol packs with 100% markup on them, and try to get the Coloured Wheel Centres and mats thrown in free if you can.

Good luck with the wait!!

Thanks allot guys.

I will look into the sports Exhaust.
Does the Cab come with a wind deflector?
I like the idea of the multi function steering wheel but does it feel as good as the sports wheel?

Cheers

Ben,

Certainly go for the PSE. Especially for your cab.

Didn't thik i'd be an advocate of the PSE but it really is superb. Strawberries and cream nice.

I went for the smaller diameter chunkier sports wheel. It's another on the list to go for I think.

Can't recall, I think so though, check with your dealer.

One thing I personally don't like about the thicker sports steering wheel is that it has extra thick areas where your thumbs usually go, in order to force you to adopt a 9-3 o'clock position with your hands. It just doesn't look as classy as the multi-functional steering wheel either IMHO...

Hi

The cab most definetly comes with the wind deflector butif you want the hard top then you have to fork out. My previous cab a 996 facelift came with a hard top as standard and the wind deflector was an extra - great new marketing by Porsche!.

As it happens I dont miss the hard top as I rarely use the car when the weather is atrocious.

Good luck for your new car

Ben, that looks like one tasty motor you are ordering; you will have a lot of pleasure from it.

Have to agree with Alex, for a cab, the heated seats are great for open top driving during the cooler parts of our year.

Sports exhaust is also great sounding in a cab.

People have mentioned quality issues with the phone module so you should check if this has been fixed by Porsche now.

I think Tyre pressure monitor is standard now and in hindsight, it's something I'd have gone for.

I would definitely not get the CD changer though, you can get 700mb of mp3 in the head unit nowadays.

Thanks allot guys for all your recommendations, i am going for the Sports Exhaust, minus the CD changer!

What do people think of the sports seats, is there enough lumbar support?

Cheers

Ben

Sports seats are good for me and I would definitely get them again. I feel secure and fitted in them. Whenever I've had to have a replacement service car with standard seats, its something I notice missing.

That said, I'd recommend you go sit in the 2 types (adaptive / sports are same shape, and the standard seats) yourself and see which best suit your body type.

Hi Ben, I've been away for a few days so you may already have firmed up on your order not that should be a problem as you have already been given plenty of good advice. FWIW here are my comments:

I really like the telephone module, Orange, acording to my local store, do not issue duplicate sim cards so I bought an additional card, for £5.00 I think. By a fluke the number for this card was 0 777 911 xxxx.

I went for the Carrera sports wheels which are 10mm wider at the rear, look great and the standard colour is a deeper silver than the other wheel options making them a good match for the grey. These come with coloured caps as standard but there is still a charge for them!

I didn't go for the PSE, my ears are already shot and I thought the price too high for no performance gain but I know I'm in a minority here, but if I should change my mind it can be retrofitted - something that does not apply to all options.

I think the multifunction wheel is good but could manage without because everything is near to hand anyway and also agree with the earlier comment that cruise control is rarely used in practice.

I have the adaptive sports seats and find these realy comfortable - just completed earlier today a 300 mile, 6 hour, journey from Scotland with just one fuel stop no aches or other discomfort.

Sat nav is great, can't comment on the relative merits of Porsche vs others but after climbing the learning curve I am becomming increasingly reliant on this.

TPMS is not standard in UK (but is in the US) I think this is a must have, I really appreciate the comfort that comes from knowing that there is an early warning system in place for punctures.

Although I have a coupe I also have the heated seats, not tried mine yet but my wife loves hers.

Complete list of my options:

GT Silver/Ocean Blue/Top tint U2/FE
Park assist 635
Auto dim mirrors P12
Sports chrono 640
Sport shifter XCZ
Stainless steel tail pipes X54
Carrera sports wheels XRR
Heated Seats 342
Cruise control 454
Fire ext 509
Adaptive sports seats P01
Tyre pressure mon 482
Three spoke mf wheel 431
Porsche crest in head rest XSC
Sat nav module 670
Telephone module 666
Bose sound 680
Coloured wheel centers 446
Carrera logo on storage lid CUV
Porsche VTS T93

Check out the Carrera logo on storage lid in the exclusive section of the Porsche web - I think this looks great.

Hope this is not too late and of some help

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your advice.

Having test driven a 9972S and 2S cab, i decided to switch to the coupe.

The spec i have chosen is as follows.... btw what do you think about red seat belts, as saw them on a seal grey car and was quite impressed?

Meteor Grey
Black Leather
PCM
Sports Exhaust
Bose
Rear wiper
Sunroof
Auto wipers and mirrors
ParkAssist
19" Sport Design
Cruise
Sports Seats
Heated Seat
Deletion of model designation
Red Seat belts

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

Ben

Can I ask why you went from a preference on the Cab to the Coupe?

I nearly went for a Coupe (+ X51 and Sports Suspension) myself but was swayed at the last minute towards the Cab (mostly by my other-half, as girls definitely prefer open top cars!). These were both about the same price, so I am wondering why you have dropped the Cab option but haven't added the X51 one as a result. Purely to save money?!

Also, if you do go for the Coupe with a rear wiper then you might want to research the endless debates on this first. Most people go for not having a rear wiper as they say it's not really needed, it ruins the beautiful rear lines of the car, and it doesn't come with a washer jet either. Others say that it is a must have. So you might want to look into it.

BTW - I forgot to mention that having a Cabriolet is in my opinion the best option you can get on the Carrera! It's my first soft-top, but I am an absolute convert!!

...hence my curiosity on your switch from Cab to Coupe

Lots of good advice on different options as has been mentioned elsewhere.

The seats are something that you really need to try personally to find what suits you best. Most of the other stuff is personal choice.

I for one think that the cruise control is an excellent option for the motorway. It is so easy to drift up to licence endangering speeds.

But like Alex, I am intrigued by the switch from Cab to Coupe. I am sure all the 911 purists think that the Coupe is the only way to go, but for me the marginal loss of handling (and my Cab handles well enough for me) is made up many times over by the wind in the hair and noise of the Cab when pressing on.
