PDK clunky behaviour when cold

Hi all,

Brand new to the forum and also Porsche ownership, picked up my 2010 Cayman S PDK in aqua blue on Friday and so far I'm loving it!

I do have a question though, I've noticed that when cold and moving off the gearbox is quite clunky and almost feels like its slipping between the first few gear changes. However problem immediately goes away after a few minutes when getting into the higher gears.

It doesnt do this when the car is warm, so is there anything I need to worry about here, is it normal behaviour or should I get it checked out?

I've searched the forum and haven't found anyone a similar issue so any advice much appreciated.

My Boxster S was exactly the same when it arrived in March 2009 but the cold start PDK lumpy behaviour disappeared after a couple of thousand miles. OPC never understood what issue might have been.
 
Thanks for the reply, however mine is a 2010 with 15k miles on the clock so its well run in, so in that case should I consider a chat with the dealer?
 
Hi Matt and welcome to the forum and Porsche ownership. The PDK uses a multi-plate wet clutch and it could be that the symptoms you describe are a function of the clutch oil temperature. I believe that the PDK 'box uses two different oils - one for the clutch and the other for the transmission - and it might be worthwhile ensuring that the level for the clutch is correct. Your handbook will tell you when the levels are supposed to be checked. Have a word with your local PC - they'll have plenty of experience of any such issues and will be able to advise you accordingly. Jeff
 
Thanks Jeff. I bought the car from a PC so I'm hoping all levels should be right as a part of the multi point check they do, however I'll enquire anyway to be sure. Thanks for the info, other than the odd quesition which crops up I love my Cayman!
