PDK BEHAVIOUR FROM COLD

I’m 2 weeks into my first experience of PDK in my 987.2S so just getting to know it. I’ve just reset it to factory settings so it can start to learn my driving “style.” One thing I’ve noticed is a very slight jerkiness in the gear changes when the box is cold, when in automatic. Is this normal? After 4 or 5 miles when the car’s up to temperature and warm fluids have been circulating the gear changes are very smooth, which seems normal to me but I thought I would check with you guys. The PDK has just had its 12 year service so that shouldn’t be a consideration.

Normal in my experience of a couple of 987.2 pdk cars. It’s a performance box and it works better when it’s warm.

Btw as far as I know there isn’t a actually a reset for “learned driving”

The procedure often quoted “turn all loads off - hold it in gear at standstill etc” is torque slip calibration and is only applicable to macan gearboxes (which are VW DSG derived ) and it’s documented as a a step when you disconnect / reconnect the battery on those cars.

That process is not listed for any “sports car” pdk model.

According to the tech briefing that came out when the pdk was 1st introduced they adapt based on the most recent driving -literally how you drive into the last few corners, braked or accelerated into the roundabout - they take notice of altitude, yaw, steering angle brake and accelerator input over a small window.

Otherwise every car would drive like it’s just been bought and driven off the forecourt and is being run in.

There are recalibration routines that can be run from diagnostics but that’s more about “fixes and updates” than “reset learning or adaptations”

So this procedure I read about doesn’t actually work on a 987.2 then(?). I ran it yesterday and I was convinced something had changed but maybe that was a kind of placebo! …

1. Turn on the engine, turn off A/C (and any other systems like PCM radio etc) and let the engine run for 3 minutes.

2. Turn on A/C and wait another 3 minutes.

3. Turn off engine, remove the key, close & lock the car and wait one minute

4. Restart car and PDK is now reset to factory default
