PCM2 problems?

Hi all,
I have PCM2 in my 2003 Turbo and have had nothing but trouble with it.
Everything works fine with the exception of the ' phone module, which at least 50% of the time just doesn' t work when you start the car, sometimes if I shove the SIM card in and out a few times it clears and works but most it doesn' t.
It' s been in (to HR Owen @ Hatfiled) 4 times now, the last time they tried to blame the SIM card (I' ve tried 3 different ones so know it' s not that) and seem reluctant to fit a new unit, although they' re going to have to soon believe me []

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

Alan.

I have the PCM option. I have the 6 CD changer, the radio, sat nav and phone all go through the single screen. I don' t have a separate handset though.

It works fine, except for the phone.
I have only one issue with this, but I haven' t done anything about it.
When you put the SIM in, it finds the network and registers OK and you can make and receive calls. However, more often than not, it will not open the phonebook. The option remains " greyed out" .
Turning the phone off and back on again, using the menu option, cures it, then it works fine.

I wondered if it was the SIM, but I have several and none of them have any issues in the many phones I have.

Mine is the same setup Stuart except that I have the separate handset too (and Bose).
Mine occasionally performs as yours does but more often than not just doesn' t " see" the SIM card so therefore just hangs up with the message " checking card" on the screen.
Everthing else will still work fine at this stage however

The most likely explanation is that one of the 6 SIM connectors is bent or there is a dry joint on one of the solder pads.

If one of the SIM connections had flux or contamination on it, it should have cleared itself after your repeated insertions.

It seems it will need to either replaced or removed from the dash, opened up and checked.

I have the same options as Stuart.

I have had no problems with the system at all.

When inserting the SIM card it does take a few seconds to read all the phone book entries, however once read I can access them either from the screen or from the steering wheel stalk.

My only issue with the system is how to obtain updated navigation CD' s. Mine are dated 8/2002. I have spoken to my OPC who say that you need to register with Navtech. However on the Navtech website it says that you need to obtain them from Porsche ?

Hi,
I have 2 sim cards on the vodaphone service, one in a mobile and one I switch between cars(both PCM2' s)
You elect by *131# which will receive, both will ring out.
All works fine.

I also have 2 SIM cards, however the PCM module will not allow *131# to be dialled to nominate the PCM as the main phone.
Porsche say this is by design, my view is that it is stupid to have to use a mobile as the only way of nominating the PCM as the main phone.

My PCM works fine it' s a PCM 1 (99) but everybody bitches about the reception. I can hear the call perfectly. Has anybody hear of this or any fixes such as upgraded or relocated mic' s?

As an update to this, it would seem that finally (after 6 trips to the dealer for various " fixes" ) a solution has been found.

I have been getting a little agitated at the dealer' s reluctance to replace the PCM unit with a new one.
Their argument was that it was a £3.5k part and if it turned out not to be faulty they had to swallow this cost.
My argument was of course that I paid £100k+ for my car and expect everything to work

Anyhoo, when they siggest one last " fix" I was none too happy but went along with it, and it has cured the problem!

All they did was remover the handset (as in unplugged it from the unit) and switched this option off within the PCM system.
Voila, no more problems in over a week!

Next thing will be to see if a new handset causes the same problems...

See my posting on the Boxster register.
When I get in the car I phone to nominate that card by dialling the number stored .Youre right it dials and reports call failed.
Neverthless it does receive and send your calls.
When I get out of the car all I do is dial on the mobile and it nominates.
This is of course using 2 sim cards issued to the same number, you can have more I think-see vodaphone bus. user web site
