Paint Code

Hi, does anyone know where the paint code is on the 718 Cayman?


l’ve picked up my first stone chip on the front bumper and want to order some touch up paint online.

I’ve not got my service book yet, otherwise I would have checked that, as I am waiting for it and the owners manual as my OPC didn’t have them when I collected my Cayman.

Hi Mark,

It looks as though your car’s Gentian Blue? I think that the paint colour code could be M5D, so have a look at any sticker you can find on the body to see if it’s there to confirm or otherwise.

Porsche sell touch up sticks, however, I have personally never had decent results since even the application of a touch up requires a talent and and technique that I don't have.

If it bugs you massively ( I can see it would ) then I would say find a professional, but of course - on the next drive you might get 5 more....

I have taken to touching in deep chips with a clear lacquer to prevent rust, and adding them to collection that will be resolved, briefly, by a front end paint refresh if/when the "bug me" list gets big enough.

Its a personal thing - but a badly repaired chip looks worse than a "wont get worse" damage limitation lacquer to me.

On the subject of touch-up paint, I’d agree that the conventional paint and additional clear coat don’t work very well, and generally produce an unsightly blob. Although it’s an expensive alternative, I’ve had variable success using the Chipex kit which uses a single-shot paint and a blending solution … the solution’s great if you make a mistake! It seems to work best on darker colours like your Gentian Blue. It gave an excellent result on my ancient red Mk5 Golf GTi and my friend’s dark blue Civic Type R, less so on my Arctic Silver 987.2 CS. Definitely worth a try.
