Paint and the 356 section

Yikes it's slow here. mind you if it's only open to Paid up PCGB members only. It's no wounder every ones on other forums.

Anyway just an up date on my resto car. the 1954 Pre A

with a new ( well sort of ) stab at falling in love with the car again and the poss move to all things down under it means I have a problem with the GST taxs and other Duty to be paid on the car so I have contacted the Ozy import gov dept and they basicly said the more work you do to the car the more it's worth.. and the more we have to TAX you .. so as a working man I have to be sharp on my money so I had come to a standstill on the resto of the car.

Anyway still awaiting clarification on all the rules which are like stock exchange tick'o tape eg they change to suit the wind direction..

any way i have now chosen the paint and the paint colour. I called John in the US who does a paint matching service and I came up with the colour that was a perfect match to Radium Green a 1953 colour and it just happend to be a perfect match to a 1980's Toyota colour and I mean perfect match to the sample.

But as I have found out these paints are never the same and as long as effort is made to get the colour as close as you can then hey!! well done

So I better start making room in the workshop to start the body work resto again..

any one else doing a resto?

also did I hear right that unless your 356 is finished and registered in the UK your not part of the PCGB 356 register? I would hope this is just a rumor to chuck in with the others in the bin. Let me know??

Any 356, whatever the condition should be put on the register.
This allows a record to be kept of the location/owner/condition/and whether the owner wishes to sell, or just needs help.

Paul I have not had any 356 contact for some time I am not sure what or how much gets sent out over the year. I have to say it's not a lot but then is there alot to talk about? I do think this part of the forum could be so much more represented and some good come of the articals.

Anyway just how much info per year is sent out?

In addtion to the first comment I made. I was told it was only UK registered cars. So like me and alot of others if you had a California import and it was not registered in the UK yet eg not a finished project you wouldn't be part of the list. True or not true? I only say this as I have had a few more people come up to me at events and mentioned they have left the club as they had no real contact and also there car was an import. Any connection? I hope not.

Contact is a two way thing. If not on register you won`t be contacted.[8|]

People leave for a variety of reasons, again you only get out what you put in. You , or anybody else can send articles to Porsche Post ( check with Stephen Mummery first) setting out details of your resto or experiences with 356 ownership.

Did you go to Heddingham Castle? an excellent effort by the 356 Reg Sec Fred Hampton and his team.[][][]

Come on stop refering to rumour and get on with enjoying your 356![]

Hmm Rumor is one thing Paul but as I have said anumber of people have come to me asking about this and their own cars as Ex memembers. I know I am on there as far as I am still aware.

" You get what you put in " hmm again I have tried to move things forward and tried to help out but it seams there is a brick wall..I just don't know what to do. I am one of these people that don't mind helping out getting things going. But there is only so much you can do before you say stuff it and walk on. As I said before the 356 UK people are split down the middle. It's such a shame it's been pushed that way.

But my orginal question has still not been answered? and it's a proper question, Paul the comments I get when ever I go to a show or people call me or email me it's getting silly. Just how many people have to leave the club on the 356 side before anything is done?

At this rate I am going to come to the AGM and raise this issue face to face and print off the emails and gather a list of people I know who have just left..because there is nothing there. The club is missing out on so much tallent I think. So many nice cars and so much pashion from a younger group of owners I mean younger 30-50 ( Well Paul is slightly older than 50 but has the same position on all this as me )


I have spoken to Fred about these sorts of things in the past and he is not convinced that anything is wrong. Plus he does rightly or wrongly think that the club it's self is to blame. So who's right ?? The club or Fred?
