Override sports exhaust in Sport mode

My new-to-me 2.5 718 GTS has PDK, Sport Chrono and Sports Exhaust. If I select Sport mode with the wee dial, it enables the sports exhaust but I don't seem to be able to override that with the centre console button. Is that a fault?

Chris.

Does the button do anything when not in sports mode ?

My experience is limited to a 718 with pse but no sports chronos. Just the default sports button. The pse operates independently but the tone changes if you enable pse when sports is selected vs. not selected

On my 987.2 ( yes very different car ) they are completely separate systems.

The button makes the LED go on and off! But it doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the sound. Switching between normal and Sport increases the idle speed but with the Sports Exhaust switch in either setting, when in Sport mode I find the sound in the cabin to be very boomy and unpleasant.

I understand many 4-cylinder 718s were fitted with an electronic sound actuator, called "Soundaktor", to pump artificial noise into the cabin! It can be disabled by removing a fuse - the trick is finding out which one! Supposedly, deactivating it makes the cabin quieter in all modes - which I would think would be a move in the right direction.

It was my understanding that the Soundaktor wasn't fitted to S and GTS models in the UK.

I have seen one 718 2.0 that had previously had the Soundaktor disconnected, not sure of if it was unplugged or fuse removed, and there was a stored code in the car "complaining" about it. Didn't seem to be an issue - but something to consider re warranty - I have never heard of it being an issue - but, they would "know" if the code wasn't cleared.

I might talk to Porsche Silverstone's head technical chap - he seemed to be pretty switched on when I spoke to him about cruise activation.

Pressing the button on the centre console should deactivate the sports exhaust when in sport mode.

Alternatively, why not program your preferred settings into the I mode (for individual). You can do this easily from the MFD.
