Oulton Park Track day 25th June

I'm toying with attending this one - http://www.trackdays.co.uk/book/cartrackday/6550/

Following on from the popularity of '944s at Bedford', anyone else interested?

I think the issue for most is probably the price, £245 is probably about right for that track and time of year but unless you have a dedicated track car an all day session can be quite hard on tyres and brakes, etc. I have been thinking that after our Bedford track day we could look at doing one of Javelin's evening track sessions, they have them for Cadwell Park and Snetterton 300 (both £49) and Donington Park (£129). They run in the evenings for about 2.5 hours (Donnington is 3 hours) and appear to be a good way of getting time on track, without too much stress and wear on the car.

I've not done one but they may be a good way of us continuing the 944 track day meets whilst keeping them affordable for most?

What do you think?

Good idea Edd...some of us have done the evening sessions at Brands and they're good. Less expensive, and as well as less stress and wear on the car there's less stress and wear on the driver!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not organised by 'Porsche-on-Track'? I've seen it headed up as 'GT Day', similar idea to 'RS Day'. They run these days as Porsche only days. I have done Oulton 3 times now and it is a great circuit. I'm just waiting to book my Family Holiday incase it clashes, then may book up for it.

Edd,

I reckon Snetterton would be a good venue to try for the evening, keeps out of the main commuter roads for the eveniing, unless we were to meet up early afternoon and then it wouldn't matter?

I did Oulton last year for the first time, fantastic circuit!! An all-day session is no harder on the car than Bedford would be and, at the end of the day, it's all about how you drive it (acknowledging the descent of the red mist!!). Actually, Oulton is less of a power circuit than Bedford, so easier in some ways. For people like me in the SW, part-day or evening sessions are difficult to justify unless it's Castle Combe. Snetterton is a fair old run! I will probably sign up for a visit to Oulton in June, just because it was so much fun last time - worth every penny of the (as you say, rather expensive) entry fee!!

looks like this is being run by porsche on track.

oulton is a great circuit - but I would guess a day like this will be much tougher for newer track drivers. lots of fast cars, and a big speed differential between new and experienced drivers. I'm still cautious around druids as I've seen what happens when it goes wrong...

IMO best thing to do is

a. stick any trackdays you've booked in your signature so that people can join up if they fancy it

b. see where we are after Bedford when we can better gauge the forum appetite for more trackdays.

Good spot re Porsche On Track, it was these guys that I spoke to at the Autosport Show in January, Melv from the RS forum here was there too. Phil Brough one of their instructors also offered his services, he now says he is coming to our 20th May date, perhaps also with his 924s race car, and to offer instruction. They seem like a very friendly group and as you say their days are Porsche specific, but they do allow other cars on also.

I think ed's points are good ones, I'm happy to organise further track day meets if there is enough interest after Bedford, obviously it will need to remain affordable and assessable for most. However, there is no reason in future why we couldn't run days or weekends at Spa or Nurburgring if that is what people are after.
